Job description

Who is a Systems Technician at SMT?

Are you a sports fan? Do you enjoy working hands-on with computer systems, cables, and electronics equipment? Are you someone who likes solving technical problems and improving system performance?

If you answered yes to these questions, we have a great opportunity for you to join our SMT team as a Hardware & Systems Technician!

As a Systems Technician, you’ll play a critical role in building, maintaining, and improving the hardware systems that power SMT’s innovative sports technology solutions. While primarily campus-based, this role may occasionally support broader operational needs across SMT.

In this role, you will join the Systems team within Durham Operations. This is an on-site position based in Durham, NC division. This is a full-time position, with a schedule of Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm.

What is Your Daily Impact as a Systems Technician?

Some of the main challenges you’ll tackle in this role include:

  • Building and maintaining PC systems, cable assemblies, and supporting hardware within SMT inventory
  • Supporting hardware systems used both in the field and on SMT’s campus
  • Investigating and recommending enhancements to improve equipment reliability
  • Partnering with the Asset Manager to maintain accurate tracking and control of hardware assets
  • Providing technical expertise across departments on hardware configurations and support equipment
  • Documenting system deployments, including video, data, and peripheral interfaces
  • Analyzing system failures and contribute to trend analysis to improve overall reliability

What Do You Bring to SMT?

Here are some of the key skills and experiences we are looking for in this opportunity:

  • Associate’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of computer hardware and software systems
  • Experience using electronic test equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, datasheets, and work instructions
  • Proficiency with hand tools and small power tools
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaborate within a team
  • Willingness to support work outside of core responsibilities when needed

What Can SMT Offer You?

Your work will directly contribute to the success of our SMT teams, driving innovation and changing the game of sports broadcast, events and data collection technology.

Often described as feeling like a start-up with a 40 year track record of serving sports leagues and broadcast partners, this team offers the chance to collaborate with experts in their fields, grow within the company and be valued for your contributions. You will get to see your work enjoyed by millions of fans across the world!
