Position Profile
The Assistant Professor of Practice of Sports Management is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in sport management with an emphasis on sports facilities management, club management, e-sports, sales and marketing, organizational leadership, and sport industry operations. This role focuses on preparing students for careers across amateur, collegiate, and professional sport sectors through applied learning, industry engagement, and development of core management competencies. Teaching extra hospitality and tourism management courses are expected for this position.
Purdue University Northwest's College of Business invites applications for the full-time academic position of Assistant Professor of Practice in Sports Management for an academic year appointment starting August 17, 2026.
Responsibilities
The duties include teaching, student mentoring, and engagement as assigned by the Director and/or Dean. The baseline teaching load is four undergraduate or graduate courses (e.g., Foundation of Sports Management, Club Management, Hospitality Facilities Management, Tourism Management, etc.) during the semester on both campuses (Hammond and Westville) of PNW. The successful candidate will demonstrate effective teaching that encourages student learning and is responsible for collecting, assessing, and reporting student learning outcomes. The successful candidate will also mentor students by providing support for the development of professional practice skills. The successful candidate will work collegially and professionally with students, employees, and other stakeholders. Successful candidates will demonstrate substantial ability to interact with regional businesses, engage students through innovative curricula and learning approaches, and contribute to College and University service and engagement.
Education
  • Must have a Master degree or Ph.D. in business or related areas.

Experience
  • Commitment and evidence of successful teaching experience at a college level is required.
  • Knowledge of the sport industry structure and management principles
  • Candidates will demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to learn and use learning technology and platforms such as Brightspace.
  • Ability to teach a multi-cultural student population.

Essential Knowledge and Abilities
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars, in addition to office hours.
  • Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams.
  • Be highly organized, with excellent communication skills.
  • Able to work independently, as well as collaboratively.
  • Assist with program-related duties and administrative tasks, including placement, orientation, proctoring, student evaluations, curriculum, and program review.
  • Understand and adhere to university policies and guidelines.
  • Able to maintain accurate and detailed records.

Competency in effective and appropriate online (synchronous and asynchronous) delivery and in-person instructions.
