Forensic Nursing

Full Time

A forensic nurse is a Registered or Advanced Practice Nurse who has advanced education and training in the specialized care of patients who are experiencing violence. Forensic nurses work in a variety of fields, including sexual assault (as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners or SANEs), domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, elder mistreatment, death investigation, etc. For more information about careers, educational opportunities, and the certification process for forensic nursing, visit the website for the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) at www.forensicnurses.org.

Individuals interested in working for Children’s Advocacy Center of Lowndes County need to meet minimum qualifications:

  • A current RN licensure to practice in Georgia

  • BLS certification

  • At least 3 years nursing experience

  • You are required to have individual malpractice insurance (1,000,000/3,000,000)

  • Be able to pass a criminal background check

  • Completed or willing to complete an approved pediatric sexual assault nurse examiners program (40- hours didactic); successfully completed clinical competency preceptorship in the role of SANE

Forensic Nurse Examiner-FNE/SANE

This is a Full-Time, (includes on-call and occasional nights, weekends and holidays)This position is responsible for ensuring delivery of Forensic Medical Services when requested by law enforcement and the Department of Family and Children Services, for children victimized by crimes of sexual assault/abuse and violence. This includes timely, accurate charting and entry of client information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Collaborate case tracking system. In addition, the FNE will assist with administrative tasks as requested. Participate and engage in staff meetings and other agency and community functions that represent the agency and promote the agency programs of direct victim-services for children victimized by crimes.
