Full Time Saxophone Jobs (NOW HIRING)

The Department of Music at Austin Peay State University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month Instructor of Applied Saxophone. This non-tenure-track appointment is a three-year term beginning July 30, 2027. 

The Department of Music at Austin Peay State University, an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music, enjoys a vital presence on campus, in the Clarksville community, and in the region. The Department boasts a nationally recognized and acoustically superior concert hall, along with outstanding performance, practice, rehearsal, and studio spaces. The Department of Music is an integral member of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA https://apsu.edu/ceca/). A long-established state-funded initiative, CECA is designed to enhance the cultural environment of the university, community, and region through a diverse range of imaginative arts experiences.

The following degrees are offered: Bachelor of Music with concentrations in Performance, Music Education, Composition, and Music Therapy; Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Music; Master of Music with concentrations in Music Education, Performance, Collaborative Piano, Instrumental Conducting, and Choral Conducting. 
 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

• Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate applied saxophone and directing the saxophone ensemble. Additional teaching assignments will be determined based on departmental needs and the successful candidate's specific areas of expertise. 

• Engage in professional, creative, and scholarly activities. 

• Advise undergraduate and graduate students. 

• Work with other departments across campus, and with area musicians and music educators.

• Actively participate in professional organizations allied to saxophone and individual research interests.]

• Participate in recruiting activities alone and in group settings.

Physical Requirements

• Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Required Minimum Qualifications

- Master's degree in saxophone performance or related fields.  
- A commitment to the recruiting efforts of the department, college, and university.

 
- Potential for a substantial creative/research/performance agenda. 
- Demonstrated aptitude for classroom teaching and personal concern for students and their achievement. 
 

Preferred: 

- Doctoral degree in saxophone performance.  
- Facility with and understanding of current technologies as they pertain to teaching saxophone. 

- Documented experience in leading student creative activities.  
- Demonstrated success teaching students of wide-ranging and non-traditional backgrounds at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
