Job Summary:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
  • Renders professional nursing care to patients within an assigned unit of the hospital and carries out orders placed by provider responsible for the patient's medical care. Provides comprehensive clinical documentation including care plans each shift
  • Seeks feedback regarding practice and takes actions as appropriate.
  • Communicates patient information appropriate for continuity and safe care through Bedside shift report, Multidisciplinary rounds, and Hourly Rounding (AIDET)
  • Compliant in achieving unit specific competencies and requirements
  • Completes all net learning modules within timeframe identified.
  • Helps to promote a culture of well-being (ex. decreasing alarm fatigue).
  • Promotes a positive culture/atmosphere within the department each shift.
  • Provides a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff by following established procedures and protocols
  • Identifies and assists in correction of patient care safety issues.
  • Works within guidelines of Just Culture Environment to promote error reporting and adoption of safe practices.
  • Assures issues are addressed through appropriate use of the chain of command
  • Participates in Daily unit-based safety Huddles
  • Knowledge and understanding of the organization's over-all strategic plan
  • Remains up to date with unit-based nurse sensitive indicators (such as CAUTI, CLABSI, CDIFF, HAPU, FALLS, HH and VAE).
  • Actively participates in quality initiatives and performance improvement to improve patient outcomes.
  • Collaborates with nurses in other department/units to draw upon expertise in other clinical areas/specialties
  • Seeks opportunities to assist all team members
  • Develops and implements performance goals based on self-assessment and performance feedback
  • Assures patient education materials are culturally competent
  • Serves as preceptor for new nurses
  • Participates in DNV survey readiness.
  • Demonstrates practice that is consistent with the tenets of shared governance and with the philosophy of the unit and the organization.
  • Assists with solution identification in response to problems and conflicts
  • Effectively delegates aspects of care and unit activities to other nursing personnel.
  • Collaborates in planning, supervising, and instructing other nurses and assistants.
  • Works collaboratively with nursing students and instructors
  • Participates in peer feedback process of annual reviews.
  • Participates in the employee engagement survey
  • Demonstrates characteristics of the SPIRIT of St. Joseph Hospital with a commitment to my co-workers and holds peers accountable for the same
  • Avoids use of unauthorized overtime
  • Manages use of ETO (Earned Time Off) per policy
  • Completes dysrhythmia course prior to completion of orientation. Required for all telemetry-based departments.
  • Maintains current nursing licensure and certifications, required for the department
  • Other duties as consistent with this role.

*For Occupational Health: Enter orders for labs, x rays, EKGs or other testing as per protocol. Access providers in basket to follow up on labs and tests ordered per protocol. Document point of care tests after completion of testing.

Job Requirements

Job Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic Dysrhythmia preferred or obtained prior to completion of orientation
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training preferred or obtained prior to completion of orientation

Education and Experience

  • Current New Hampshire RN license required
  • Basic Life Support certification required
  • Graduate of an approved Nursing program preferred
