Job Summary:
The Tool Crib Attendant is responsible for managing, organizing, and issuing tools, equipment, and supplies used in machining operations. This role ensures that machinists and production personnel have the correct tools available when needed, while maintaining accurate inventory and supporting efficient shop operations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Issue, receive, and track cutting tools, inserts, tool holders, gauges, and shop supplies
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels and perform regular cycle counts and audits
  • Organize and maintain the tool crib for cleanliness, efficiency, and easy access
  • Monitor tool usage and reorder supplies to prevent production delays
  • Inspect returned tools for wear or damage and coordinate reconditioning or replacement
  • Assemble and preset tooling for CNC machines as required
  • Maintain tool data in inventory or tool management systems
  • Work with machinists, programmers, and supervisors to ensure proper tooling availability
  • Coordinate with vendors and purchasing for tool procurement and deliveries
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and proper storage of tools and materials
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to optimize tool usage and reduce costs

Requirements
ITAR REQUIREMENTS:
This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person citizenship status
Requirements
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 2 years of experience in a machine shop or tool crib environment
  • Basic knowledge of machining processes, cutting tools, and tool applications
  • Experience with inventory control systems or ERP software
  • Ability to read basic engineering drawings and tool specifications
  • Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with CNC tooling, presetting, and tool management systems (e.g., RFID or vending systems)
  • 5 years of experience in a machine shop or tool crib environment
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or 5S practices
  • Forklift experience
  • Basic computer skills (Excel, inventory software)
