Full Time Research Development Chef information

What is a full time research development chef?

Full Time Research Development Chefs are culinary professionals who focus on creating, testing, and perfecting new recipes, menu items, and food products for restaurants, food manufacturers, or hospitality companies. They blend culinary expertise with research and development skills to innovate and improve food offerings, often working closely with marketing, nutrition, and production teams. In this full-time role, they may also oversee product trials, ensure flavor consistency, and keep up with current food trends to meet consumer demands.

What are some common challenges faced by a full time research development chef when creating new menu items or products?

A Full Time Research Development Chef often faces challenges such as balancing creativity with cost-effectiveness, ensuring new recipes meet both flavor and nutritional standards, and adapting dishes to various production environments. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—like marketing, procurement, and quality assurance—is essential to ensure that new products are feasible for large-scale production and align with brand standards. Additionally, staying updated with food trends and regulatory requirements can be demanding but is crucial for long-term success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time research development chef, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Research Development Chef, you need expertise in culinary techniques, recipe development, and a background in food science or culinary arts, often supported by formal training or relevant certifications. Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment, food safety standards, and recipe management software is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong collaboration skills help distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies are crucial for innovating new menu items, ensuring product consistency, and successfully leading cross-functional culinary projects.

What is the difference between Full Time Research Development Chef vs Full Time Culinary Scientist?

Job description

About Pegasus

Pegasus is an aerospace and defense technology company developing advanced sensing and alerting systems that connect pilots and aircraft like never before. Our flagship technology, MIDAS, provides real-time flight safety insights to military and commercial operators, enabling safer operations in even the harshest conditions. Backed by major defense primes and government partners, Pegasus is entering a critical growth phase in 2027 — and we’re expanding our engineering team to deliver the next generation of intelligent, connected flight safety systems.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a hands-on Electronics Engineering Research Specialist to assist with the design, development, and validation of next-generation aerospace sensing platforms.
You’ll contribute to the full hardware lifecycle — from concept and schematic design through prototyping, testing, and production handoff — working closely with firmware, mechanical, and systems teams.

This role is ideal for a recent Ph.D. graduate with a deep understanding of sensor design – whether electromagnetic, ultrasonic, or electro-optical – who’s ready to learn and grow within a multidisciplinary aerospace engineering environment.

You’ll help build reliable, low-power electronic sensors that enable flight safety in challenging and mission-critical applications.
This is a full-time position for a term of two years, supported by the Mitacs Accelerate program in collaboration with the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Hardware Research & Development

  • Research state-of-the art methodologies for electronically-controlled sensors.
  • Design and develop high-speed electronic circuits for high-fidelity sensing.
  • Assist with implementing low-power designs for battery-operated and wireless platforms (BLE, Li-Ion/NiMH).
  • Create schematics, perform PCB layout (in Altium Designer or KiCad), and support bring-up, integration and verification testing.
  • Participate in component selection, prototyping, and design optimization for performance, manufacturability, and reliability.

System Integration & Testing

  • Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, and systems teams on cross-functional integration and debugging.
  • Support lab and field testing for prototype systems.
  • Conduct testing, validation, and troubleshooting of electronic hardware and subsystems.

Quality & Compliance

  • Contribute to design documentation and revision control.
  • Support EMI/EMC, environmental, and reliability testing as needed.
  • Assist in meeting relevant aerospace and regulatory standards.

Collaboration & Growth

  • Work within a fast-paced, collaborative engineering team.
  • Contribute ideas to improve product design, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Learn from senior engineers while growing into increasing technical ownership over time.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Completed Ph.D. in electrical/electronics engineering, physics, or similar within the past 5 years.
  • 2-5 years of experience in electronic hardware design, ideally for embedded or wireless systems.
  • Hands-on experience with microwave laboratory testing equipment
  • Experience with PCB design tools (Altium Designer or KiCad).
  • Strong understanding of circuit design, debugging, and electronics test equipment use.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.
  • Motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in an electronics laboratory / testing environment
  • Familiarity with RF design, microwave instrumentation, or EMI/EMC best practices.
  • Exposure to manufacturing, test automation, or design for certification and Qualification processes.
  • Interest in ultra-low power design and IoT hardware optimization.

Why Join Us

Pegasus is defining the next era of intelligent flight. As an Electronics Engineering Research Specialist, you’ll contribute to technologies that enhance global aviation safety and reliability. You’ll work alongside talented engineers across software, systems, and data disciplines — helping to build hardware that flies in some of the world’s most advanced aircraft.

We offer:

  • Professional growth and mentorship opportunities
  • A mission-driven culture focused on technical excellence, impact, and integrity

Join a team engineering the future of connected flight.
