Key Responsibilities

As an LMFT, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting in-home therapy sessions as well as group therapy sessions in our outpatient clinic, tailored to meet the needs of each client.
  • Implementing strategies to reduce high-risk behaviors such as self-injurious behavior (SIB) and physical aggression through comprehensive teaching of anger management techniques, coping strategies, and social skills.
  • Enhancing decision-making skills of both youngsters and their caregivers to effectively manage behavioral challenges within the home environment.
  • Collaboration with the Child Family Treatment Team, which includes case managers, special educators, and psychologists, ensuring a unified approach to therapy and interventions.
  • Completing detailed documentation including intake assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes punctually to maintain compliance and quality of care standards.
  • Participating in regular team meetings to discuss ongoing cases, share insights, and provide recommendations for each child's unique therapeutic needs.
Patient Population / Client Focus

Your work will predominantly involve children aged 3 to 20 years who are grappling with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Special emphasis will be placed on providing bilingual support to Spanish and Portuguese-speaking families, ensuring inclusivity and access to effective mental health care. You will work closely with caregivers to strengthen familial relationships and enhance the overall well-being of the child.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  • A Masterโ€™s degree in Counseling, Family Therapy, or a closely related field.
  • An active and unrestricted LMFT license to practice in Connecticut.
  • Availability for at least 5-10 hours per week during after-school hours (specifically from 4 PM to 7 PM) is required, with weekend availability considered an asset.
  • A valid driverโ€™s license and access to a registered vehicle for travel to client homes and meetings.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, including fingerprinting, as part of the hiring process.
Preferred Experience
