Position Summary

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Saddleback Medical Center. The employee shall support Saddleback Medical Center's strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities.

The Radiology Receptionist is under the direction of the Director of Radiology. This position is responsible for communication activities between radiologists, radiology staff and other departments, nursing personnel and other caregivers, patients, visitors and other customers. This includes processing of orders, retrieving information, imaging records management, report distribution, computer system utilization, and interaction with patients, nurses, physicians, and other hospital personnel. Record maintenance includes but is not limited to uploading patient medical records to PACS, downloading patient medical records for check out or sends out to other facilities, sending radiology reports to the patient or physician's offices as requested and appropriate. The Radiology Receptionist will assist technologists as needed with orders, works with nursing staff for procedure details and patient follow-up needs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Maintains documentation of medical records management and request for records according to department and hospital policy.

  • Performs duties in a timely manner and is conscientious of patient needs. Is proactive in speaking with patients in the lobby if there is a delay. Consistently meets the needs of the department and assists where needed.

  • Provides accurate records for patient exams; orders, imaging and follow up of imaging procedures for correct documentation, communication regarding patient procedures with nursing and physicians.

  • Complies with hospital and department policies on HIPAA regulations, personal phone use, internet use and completes all mandatory in-services in a timely manner.

  • Completes daily work area checklist. Ensures that the work area is clean and ready for use and that office supplies are properly stored (when applicable).

  • Complies with MTM policies. Clocks in and out on time, avoids excessive manual clocking transactions. Complies with MHS Attendance and Tardiness policy #357. Reports to assigned area at the start of the shift. Signs off on timecard every pay period with zero errors.

  • Applies AIDET principles with every transaction. Treats patients and fellow employees with respect. always Conducts him/herself in a professional manner. Reports customer service issues to the department Lead and/or director.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • Proficiency in computer functions, Microsoft, data entry and windows is preferred.

  • Experience in radiology records and/or medical records preferred.

  • Knowledge and use of medical terminology, basic understanding of CPT coding, ICD10 and Insurances is preferred.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Medical Terminology course or certificate preferred
