Job description

Technique is looking for a Purchasing Agent to join our team at our Jackson, Michigan facility. This position reports to the Supply Chain Manager and is responsible for negotiating vendor terms, prices, and scheduling delivery using knowledge of budget and schedule requirements. Working safely, working overtime, and flexibility in work schedule are essential functions of this position. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 2 years of purchasing-related experience with knowledge of material grades, vendor negotiation, and purchase order management. Strong computer skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams are critical factors in this role.
Responsibilities – Purchasing Agent:
  • Obtain request for quotes – Obtain request for quotes from vendors using basic knowledge of material grades.
  • Confirm purchase orders – Ensure confirmation of each purchase order.
  • File purchase orders – Electronically file purchase orders.
  • Monitor material ETAs – Monitor estimated time of arrival of material.
  • Coordinate pick-ups – Coordinate pick-ups with the shipping department.
  • Negotiate with suppliers – Negotiate with suppliers and make reasonable decisions quickly.
  • Seek continuous improvements – Seek continuous improvements in purchasing processes and vendor relationships.
  • Read blueprints and understand specifications – Read blueprints and understand specifications with firm knowledge of material grades.
  • Process vendor returns – Process vendor returns in E2.
  • Maintain kirksite record – Maintain kirksite record.
  • Maintain inventory levels – Maintain proper inventory levels for stock material and placement of re-order tags.
  • Create outside service pack lists – Create outside service pack lists.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of purchasing-related experience or demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above-mentioned tasks
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word); advanced computer skills required for Level 2
