What is full time product management?

Full time product management is a career role in which an individual is responsible for overseeing the development, launch, and continuous improvement of a product or product line within a company. Product managers work cross-functionally with teams such as engineering, design, marketing, and sales to ensure the product meets customer needs and aligns with business goals. The role typically involves market research, defining product requirements, prioritizing features, and setting the product roadmap. Full time product managers are usually employed on a standard work schedule and are deeply involved in the product lifecycle from conception to launch and beyond.

How does a full-time product manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout a product lifecycle?

Full-time product managers work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, marketing, and sales, to guide products from conception to launch and beyond. They facilitate communication between teams, ensure alignment on goals, and prioritize tasks based on user needs and business objectives. Regular meetings, clear documentation, and fostering a collaborative culture are essential to overcoming challenges like conflicting priorities or resource constraints. Strong collaboration skills help product managers drive projects forward efficiently while balancing stakeholder interests.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full-time product manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full-Time Product Manager, you need strong analytical abilities, market research skills, strategic thinking, and typically a background in business, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Trello, A/B testing platforms, and experience with Agile methodologies or certifications such as Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) are common requirements. Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills help you drive cross-functional collaboration and align teams around product goals. These capabilities are crucial for successfully guiding products from conception to launch, ensuring they meet user needs and business objectives.

Full-time, Internship

Job description

Datadog is seeking curious, driven interns to join our Product Management team and help build products that improve how engineers monitor and understand their systems. As a Product Management Intern, you'll support the product development lifecycle by partnering closely with Engineering, Design, and Product Marketing to bring new ideas and features to life. You'll gain hands-on experience working on products that serve highly technical customers while contributing to meaningful business and user outcomes. Interns are embedded directly within product teams, working on meaningful initiatives alongside full-time Product Managers and contributing to actual product decisions. Our platform processes over 100 trillion events per day across 30,000+ customers in a multi-cloud environment -- giving you direct exposure to large-scale, real-time systems built by engineers, for engineers. It's an environment where you'll develop product thinking, technical communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills by doing the work, not just observing it.

At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.

What You'll Do:

  • Conduct customer discovery conversations and gather feedback to better understand user needs
  • Drive product initiatives from concept through launch alongside Engineering, Design, and Product Marketing teams
  • Translate customer and business needs into clear product requirements and engineering priorities
  • Analyze customer feedback, product data, and market insights to help inform product decisions
  • Prepare and deliver technical product demonstrations and communication materials
  • Develop technical understanding of Datadog's observability platform and cloud infrastructure products

Who You Are:

  • Targeting a 2028 full-time graduation or start date
  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Prior internship, project, or academic experience in product management, software engineering, or another product-focused technical role
  • Exposure to B2B software product development and ability to communicate technical concepts clearly while collaborating with engineers and other technical stakeholders
  • Interested in emerging technologies, including AI-powered developer tools and cloud technologies

Available to work full-time from the Datadog New York office during one of the following internship sessions:

    • Winter:
      • Jan 4, 2027 - April 23, 2027
    • Summer:
      • May 24, 2027 - August 20, 2027
        May 24, 2027 - August 27, 2027
        June 7, 2027 - September 3, 2027

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We know not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you're passionate about technology and want to grow your experience, we encourage you to apply.

Benefits and Growth:

  • Work on meaningful technical challenges alongside engineers across the globe
  • Participate in mentorship and buddy programs designed to support learning and development
  • Join an in-person intern cohort and expand your network through engineering talks, social events, and community engagement opportunities throughout your internship
  • Receive relocation support and travel benefits where applicable
  • Enjoy office perks including snacks, drinks, and catered lunches on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

Benefits and Growth listed above may vary based on the country of your employment and the nature of your employment with Datadog.

This job is available in various departments within our company; to conform to US export control regulations, some of these roles may require candidates to be eligible for any required authorizations from the US government.

If possible, please apply using your personal email address instead of your university email address.

Students can sign up for a free Datadog Pro account to learn more about our platform and products.
