Job description

Austin, TX | Full-Time, In Office

Position Overview

Contrarian Thinking Capital is an early-stage venture fund co-led by Christopher Petkas and Codie Sanchez. We invest in the real economy: the businesses that keep the lights on, move the freight, defend our shores, and maintain the infrastructure.

We're looking for a head of Investor Relations to own the capital side of the fund: raising it, keeping it, and running the operations behind it.

This role is responsible for driving the LP pipeline from first contact to signed subscription docs, serving as a primary point of contact for our limited partners, producing the communications that keep them informed, and coordinating the fund operations that keep everything clean and audit-ready.

This role sits between our General Partners, our limited partners, and our fund administration, working closely with the investment team, finance, legal, and our media and community teams, who are often where our next LP relationship starts.

What we're looking for

We are intentionally leaving a rigid years-of-experience bar aside, but this is a role for someone who has done this work before and done it well. The strongest candidates tend to share these traits:

  • You have raised capital. You have been part of real fundraises, you understand how allocators think, and you know the difference between a meeting and a commitment.
  • You understand how a fund works. Capital calls, distributions, subscription documents, LPAs, fund administration, and DDQs are familiar territory rather than a learning curve.
  • You are digitally native. You are AI-native and fluent in agentic workflows, and you see how to put the contrarian thinking audience to work, turning our reach into a repeatable engine for capturing both deal flow and prospective investors
  • You are exceptional with people. You build trust quickly, read a room well, handle sensitive conversations with discretion, and make our partners feel genuinely well served.
  • You write with precision. Your communications are clear, credible, and on-brand; the kind of writing that increases an investor's confidence.
  • You are highly organized. Details do not slip on your watch. You value clean systems and you build them.
  • You can represent the brand. You move comfortably between an approachable, human register and a precise, institutional one, and you know which each moment calls for.
  • You are discreet and trustworthy. You will handle confidential financial and investor information, and we need full confidence that it is in careful hands.
Who You Are
  • You take ownership of outcomes rather than tasks
  • You're organized to the point that things don't slip, and you build systems so they can't
  • You're comfortable in a small team where you'll be a center of gravity and hands-on at the same time
  • You handle sensitive conversations with judgment and discretion
  • You're direct in communication and welcome the same in return
  • You want to help build a fund, not just administer one
Why This Role Matters

Raising capital is the constraint on everything else we want to do. Right now that work is split across two General Partners who also need to be sourcing and closing deals, which means LP relationships get less attention than they deserve and the operational side runs tighter than it should. This role takes that on end to end. You'll be the person our LPs actually know, and the reason our back office is clean when it counts. The quality of our LP base over the next few years is largely going to be a function of how well this seat is run.
