JOB SUMMARY
Technical lead specializing in the design and development of parcel sortation and material handling systems. Adept at leading customer bids and projects from concept through execution, whether starting from a blank slate or refining existing layouts. Combines deep knowledge of automation and sortation technologies with a strong commitment to meeting site-specific requirements and strict customer specifications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Serve as the technical lead on assigned bids and projects, ensuring proposed system designs align with customer requirements, safety regulations, and internal engineering standards.
  • Design automated parcel sortation and material handling system layouts for proposals, from conceptual planning through to detailed designs.
  • Collaborate with internal project teams to maintain consistency in design practices and ensure compliance with company engineering standards.
  • Engage directly with customers to confirm all site-specific, project, and specification requirements are accurately captured and addressed.
  • Create and review detailed engineering designs, system calculations, and layout drawings for parcel handling systems.
  • Develop comprehensive drawing sets in AutoCAD and/or 3D models using Inventor to support proposals and project planning.
  • Generate detailed manifests outlining required demolition, modifications, and new equipment necessary for project execution.
  • Analyze 3D models against point cloud scans to validate accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Produce detailed clash detection reports, highlighting potential issues requiring field service attention.
  • Communicate effectively across cross-functional teams to ensure all technical requirements are captured for accurate estimating and bid development.
  • Coordinate design and estimating efforts across internal departments and external partners, acting as the primary technical point of contact.
  • Provide expert technical guidance throughout project planning, system installation, and commissioning phases.
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance, and enforcement of engineering tools, processes, and standards for the systems engineering discipline.
  • Perform additional engineering, estimating, and project-related tasks as needed to support business objectives.

Requirements
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks, and BIM.
  • Strong knowledge of material handling mechanical and system-level engineering principles, including equipment, speed, flow rates, and integration of subsystems.
  • Ability to review and apply detailed customer specifications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Project).
  • Ability to apply independent engineering judgment, cost analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to produce accurate, high-quality design packages.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of balancing multiple bids and project priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills; capable of balancing technical design, estimating, and project coordination responsibilities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with customers, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to lead design and estimating efforts, and coordinate across disciplines to achieve project and proposal goals.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent in years of experience.
  • 2+ years' experience in conveyance, construction, systems engineering, or project engineering functions with exposure to cost estimating and proposal development.
  • Proficiency in CAD Software (AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar).
  • Experienced use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Project).
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
