Job description

Job Title: Accounting Assistant

Reports To: Controller

Employment Type: Full-Time (Non-Exempt) ON-SITE

Job Summary

The Accounting Assistant will perform routine clerical, filing, and data entry tasks for accounting data including accounts payable, billing, and receivables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily entries for accounting records include accounts payable, billing, and accounts receivable for multiple entities.
  • Record customer payments and prepare aging reports for management.
  • Review of billing statements, invoices, and similar documents for accuracy; alerts supervisory staff of any discrepancies.
  • Verify that the correct freight charges have been billed to customers.
  • Monthly Sales tax reports for multiple states.
  • DOT reporting and permits.
  • Assist with HR duties such as attendance tracking, interviews and onboarding of new hires.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong understanding of debits, credits, journal entries and general ledger accounting principles.
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently enter data into computer software and systems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Quickbooks / Intuit, Google or related software.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in accounting, or related field, preferred.
  • At least one year of related experience is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
