Job description

Are you a book lover who lights up when you get to talk about your latest read? Come join BookHampton's team as a Bookseller!

Located in the heart of East Hampton, BookHampton is the East End's premier independent bookstore. We're known for our lively author events, warm community, and of course, our carefully curated shelves.
As a Bookseller, you'll be on the front lines of creating an exceptional experience for every customer who walks through our doors.
  • Recommend and sell books (and gifts!) that spark joy and connection.
  • Chat with customers about literature, culture, and your favorite reads.
  • Keep our shelves tidy, organized, and inviting.
  • Pitch in with store operations, from special orders to opening and closing.
  • Support events and off-site book sales, especially during busy seasons.
  • A passion for books, reading, and great conversations.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Retail experience (bookselling a plus, but not required).
  • Comfortable working with POS systems, Microsoft Office, and digital tools.
  • Reliability, teamwork, and an eye for detail.

This is a full-time, year-round role with opportunities to grow in a bookstore that's as much about community as it is about books.

Growth & Opportunity
We are looking for dedicated team members with the potential and desire to grow into a Managerial role as they gain experience with our operations.
Additionally, our Bookseller must have the ability to:
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, weekends, and fully available during the summer season.
  • Lift and carry up to 30 lbs. on a recurring basis.
  • Bend and stretch to shelve books as needed.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods during a shift.
