Job Description:
Madison College's Bookstore Operations is seeking an engaging and customer-focused individual to join the team as a part time Bookstore Cashier.
Providing cashiering, customer service and operational support by processing transactions, assisting customers with course materials and supplies and helping maintain an organized, efficient and welcoming bookstore environment.
The Bookstore Cashier role involves delivering a positive customer experience, supporting accurate financial reporting, assisting with inventory processes and contributing to smooth daily bookstore operations. Also, support daily closing duties and work evening and weekend sales events.
This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, student-centered environment and contributing to services that support access to educational materials and the overall college experience.
This is a part-time position, requiring 25 hours per week for 40 weeks per year (typically aligned with the academic year, with no work over the summer). Standard hours are Monday through Thursday from 12:00pm to 5:00pm and Friday from 11:00am to 3:00pm. Please note that work hours may vary based on the store's operating hours and may be adjusted to accommodate events and weekend sales events.

Accountabilities:
  • Processes financial transactions by handling payments, recording sales, reconciling cash drawers and completing daily financial reports to maintain accurate transactions.
  • Delivers front-line customer service by assisting customers with purchases, fulfilling online and in-store orders and responding to inquiries to ensure effective fulfillment of orders.
  • Ensures secure and efficient operations by performing opening and closing procedures, verifying cash transactions and providing backup support for department staff as needed.
  • Maintains inventory accuracy and store presentation by restocking merchandise, organizing shelves and creating store displays and shelf tags to facilitate order fulfillment.
  • Supports seasonal and student employees by providing training, guidance and ongoing assistance to ensure efficient operations.
  • Monitors and communicates inventory needs by tracking stock levels, reporting shortages and coordinating with internal contacts to ensure product availability.
  • Maintains a clean and functional work environment by keeping cashier stations organized and performing minor register maintenance to ensure smooth checkout operations.
  • Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of retail sales operations such as operating a point-of-sale system.
  • Ability to accurately handle financial transactions, reconcile cash drawers and maintain financial records.
  • Ability to manage multiple processes, meet deadlines and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to provide effective customer service and resolve concerns.
  • Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
  • Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School/GED or equivalent working experience. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position
  • 0-2 years relevant work experience.
