Job description

Jamaica Bay Inn, a Tapestry Collection by Hilton, is looking for a full-time Host/Hostess to join our team! We are looking for an energetic and cheerful Host/Hostess to greet and acknowledge all arriving guests and escort guests to their tables. The Host/Hostess will also be responsible for taking reservations and maintaining reservation book.

Core functions of the position, but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain a friendly, cheerful and courteous demeanor at all times, while providing personalized service to guests
  • Communicate effectively with guests and fellow team members.
  • Cheerfully and courteously greet and escort guests to tables and assist in seating at tables; present menus and extend congenialities ensuring restaurantโ€™s standards of service at all times
  • Take, record and confirm restaurant reservations/cancellation as specified in departmental standards.
  • Assist in preparing the restaurant for service and maintaining the cleanliness of the dining room at all times
  • Assist in monitoring the guestsโ€™ needs and all phases of the restaurant experience
  • Oversee all aspects of restaurant during absence of Restaurant Manager and/or Supervisor
  • Maintain complete knowledge of all menu items, specials, liquor/beer/non-alcoholic selections available in the restaurant.
  • Maintain good guest relations by keeping abreast of all in-house and area functions in order to answer questions and concerns with timely and knowledgeable responses.
  • Inspect tables and stations ensuring that all set ups meet the department Check throughout meal period. Relay deficiencies to respective team members and follow up on corrections.
  • Answer restaurant telephone courteously and efficiently as specified in department standards.
  • Extend courteous departures as guests leave the restaurant.
  • Ensure tables are cleaned and reset according to standards.
  • Report any missing/found articles or equipment/property damage to the Housekeeping Department.
  • Provide assistance to other team members and departments to contribute to the best overall performance of the department, restaurant and Hotel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by Management.
