De La Salle North Catholic High School provides a faith-based, college-preparatory high school education to underserved students from the Portland area. We are the most diverse private high school in Oregon, and over 95% of our graduates are accepted into college. Our goal is to develop tomorrow's community leaders by making high-quality education accessible to motivated young people in a learning environment that values cultural, spiritual, and ethnic diversity. Our Lasallian Catholic approach provides each student with the opportunity to succeed through small classes, high expectations, faith expression, community service, and active participation in our Corporate Work Study Program affiliated with the nationally recognized Cristo Rey Network.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Accounting Manager is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations and business office functions of De La Salle North Catholic. This position ensures accurate financial records, timely reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective accounting processes while supporting the school's mission and financial stewardship.
Working closely with the President and Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Accounting Manager provides the financial information, reporting, and operational support needed to inform strategic decision-making while maintaining responsibility for the execution of the school's accounting functions.
The Accounting Manager supervises the Business Office Assistant and Front Desk/Accounts Payable Coordinator and is responsible for ensuring efficient business office operations, accurate financial records, and exceptional internal customer service.
STRATEGIC FINANCIAL PARTNERSHIP
The Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as the school's strategic financial advisor and has primary responsibility for financial strategy, long-term planning, budgeting methodology, financial forecasting, Board Finance Committee support, executive financial analysis, and advising the President and Board of Trustees.
The Accounting Manager supports these strategic initiatives by:
  • Preparing financial reports, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Assisting with the development of the annual operating budget by compiling departmental information and financial data.
  • Providing accurate financial information and operational analysis to support financial forecasting and strategic planning.
  • Coordinating the annual independent audit and preparing requested schedules and documentation.
  • Monitoring monthly financial performance and identifying significant budget variances for review.
  • Assisting with cash flow reporting and other financial analyses as requested.
  • Supporting grant budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance with donor restrictions and grant requirements.
  • Recommending improvements to accounting processes, financial systems, and internal controls.
  • Performing additional financial projects as assigned by the President or Fractional CFO.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Accounting & Financial Administration
  • Ensure the integrity of all accounting operations, including recording, monitoring, reconciling, closing, and reporting cycles in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Maintain relationships with the school's banking partners and financial institutions.
  • Oversee semi-monthly payroll processing, including tax filings, retirement contributions (403(b)), and benefit allocations.
  • Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, tuition collection, payroll support, and daily business office operations.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for review by the President and Fractional CFO.
  • Complete monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Monitor cash flow and prepare reports for review by the President and Fractional CFO.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Support the administration of tuition assistance and the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program.

Financial Reporting & Budgeting
  • Support the annual operating budget process by compiling departmental requests and preparing budget worksheets.
  • Monitor budget-to-actual performance and identify significant variances.
  • Prepare financial reports and analyses requested by the President and Fractional CFO.
  • Maintain accurate financial information to support organizational planning and decision-making.

Audit & Compliance
  • Coordinate the annual independent audit by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Work with external auditors to provide requested financial information.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain strong internal accounting controls and recommend operational improvements.

Development & Grant Accounting Support
  • Reconcile donor pledges and gift records with the Development Department.
  • Track restricted gifts and grant expenditures.
  • Prepare financial reports and documentation required for grants and restricted funding.

Business Office Leadership
  • Supervise and support the Business Office Associate and Front Desk/Accounts Payable Coordinator.
  • Establish efficient business office procedures and internal controls.
  • Train, coach, and support business office staff.
  • Ensure timely processing of financial transactions.
  • Promote outstanding customer service to students, families, employees, donors, and vendors.
  • Continuously improve business office workflows and efficiency.

Benefits Administration
  • Coordinate employee benefit enrollments, changes, and annual renewals.
  • Maintain payroll and benefits records.
  • Collaborate with the President's Assistant/HR Coordinator regarding employee records and benefits administration.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible accounting or finance experience, preferably in a nonprofit, educational, or mission-driven organization.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with QuickBooks, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, financial reporting, payroll administration, and internal controls.

ANNUAL SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary range $85,00 - $95,000. Generous benefits package includes: 80 hours paid vacation, 80 hours paid sick time, paid holidays and school closure periods (winter and spring breaks), medical/dental/vision insurance with a shared premium cost, employer-paid life insurance and long-term disability insurance, and Employee Assistance Program (EAP), employee-paid voluntary insurance plans, and a 403(b) retirement savings plan with employer match.
