Job description

Hedlund Painting Inc.

Fractional Controller

Location: Remote (open to international independent contractors). Candidates must be able to communicate with a U.S.-based team operating in Pacific Time.

Protect the Numbers. Bring Clarity to the Business.

Hedlund Painting Inc. is a growing painting contractor with a broad mix of commercial and residential work. As the company continues to scale, leadership wants stronger financial visibility and an extra layer of review around reporting accuracy, bookkeeping, and overall financial confidence.

We're hiring a Part-Time Fractional Controller/Financial Reviewer to act as a financial check valve for the business. This is not a full-time CFO role. Instead, this person will spend a limited number of hours each month reviewing P&Ls and other core financial reports to help ensure accuracy, catch inconsistencies, and provide peace of mind to ownership. Over time, this role could evolve into broader financial guidance, but the immediate need is simple: a clear, trustworthy review of the numbers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review monthly P&Ls, financial statements, and key accounting reports
  • Validate the accuracy of bookkeeping and financial reporting
  • Flag inconsistencies, unusual entries, or reporting concerns
  • Provide concise feedback and recommendations to ownership
  • Help leadership better understand business financials over time
  • Support occasional higher-level financial decision-making when needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional discretion with company records

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Controller, Fractional CFO, Senior Accountant, or Financial Analyst
  • Strong understanding of U.S. accounting practices and financial statements
  • Ability to review financials independently and communicate findings clearly
  • High level of integrity, accuracy, and professional judgment
  • Comfortable working on a light-hour, part-time basis
  • Construction or contractor industry experience is a plus
  • A CPA background is a plus, but not required

Compensation

  • Job Type: Part-time, independent contractor agreement
  • Pay: Starting around $10 - $13 per hour, depending on experience and location
  • Flexible schedule
  • Low-hour advisory role with meaningful impact
  • Opportunity to grow into a broader strategic finance role over time
  • Remote arrangement with direct access to leadership

Why Hedlund Painting

Hedlund Painting takes culture seriously and wants trusted people around the business. Chris values honesty, doing the right thing, and working with people who are open, genuine, and accountable. That mindset extends beyond the field and into the back office. This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys bringing clarity, helping business owners feel more confident in their numbers, and supporting a company that values relationships just as much as results.

Hedlund Painting Inc. is committed to providing an inclusive and professional working relationship for all applicants and contractors.
