Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking Industrial / Principal Industrial Engineer- Affordability Engineer
The ideal candidate is a team player; but also, a strong independent contributor with strong leadership skills, demonstrated problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, as well as interpersonal and organizational skills and a proactive, detail-oriented approach.
Primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and execute strategic affordability roadmaps aligning labor, facilities, equipment, and tooling with program cost targets and AOP/LRSP goals.
- Design and optimize manufacturing workflows, material flow, and equipment layouts to maximize plant efficiency and personnel productivity.
- Conduct rapid manufacturing simulations and "what-if" analyses (FlexSim, AnyLogic) to forecast capacity, schedule, and cost impacts under varying scenarios.
- Perform capacity-planning and rate-tool analyses, generating metrics that track schedule and cost performance against affordability baselines.
- Lead cost-control, cost-reduction, and inventory-management studies and translate findings into actionable facility-modification and process-improvement plans.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, analysts, and production staff, serving as the affordability subject-matter expert.
- Coordinate safety and accident-prevention measures, developing training programs that support affordable production objectives.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, presentations, and briefings for senior leadership, customers, and external partners.
- Collaborate with facilities engineers and integrated product teams to integrate layout and process designs into overall facility planning.
- Drive continuous-improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or other best-practice methodologies to enhance manufacturing affordability.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
T02: 2 Years with Bachelors in Industrial Engineering, Industrial & Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Data Analytics, or related engineering field; 0 years with Masters
T03: 5 Years with Bachelors in Industrial Engineering, Industrial & Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Data Analytics, or related engineering field; 3 years with Masters, 1 year with PhD
Required for both levels:
• Must have U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain an interim Secret Security level clearance pre-start, with the ability to obtain a final Secret Security level clearance post-start
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
• Proven experience in strategic affordability planning, workflow/layout optimization, and cost-control/reduction studies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Excel, and manufacturing simulation/capacity-planning tools (e.g., FlexSim, AnyLogic, Primavera/P6).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Active DoD Secret Clearance.
• Direct experience in aerospace environments.
• Hands-on experience with FlexSim or comparable discrete-event simulation platforms.
• Background with integrated scheduling and planning tools (e.g., Primavera/P6, SAP/PP/DS).
• Project Management certification (e.g., PMP) or demonstrable project management experience.
Primary Level Salary Range: $72,100.00 - $108,100.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
