The Illinois Department of Agriculture is seeking individuals, for temporary employment not to exceed 6 months, for the Du Quoin State Fair summer season. Temporary employees are needed for the following area: Buildings and Grounds.  This is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to work in a constantly changing fast paced environment.  Successful candidates will be individuals who can work promptly and efficiently in order to maintain that the DuQuoin State Fair, as well as non-fair events, run effectively.  Applicants are encouraged to apply early as offers for positions will be made on a first come first serve basis.

Essential Functions
  • Under immediate supervision, and on a temporary basis for a period not to exceed six months, performs a variety of unskilled manual labor and/or simple clerical duties. Maintains clean, safe and attractive public use areas on the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds (DSF).
  • Sweeps, scrubs and polishes floors for maintenance of the public and non-public buildings on the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds.
  • Moves heavy equipment and office equipment including chairs, desks, filing cabinets.
  • Performs a variety of routine clerical duties.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of eight years of elementary school.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefers elementary knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, and practices essential to grounds and building maintenance.
  • Prefers experience with the operation of simple equipment, machinery, and tools.
  • Prefers experience with understanding and following oral and written instructions.
  • Prefers the possession of an appropriate and valid driver’s license.
Conditions of Employment
  • Must be able to pass a name-based sex offender registry check.
  • Must be able to work manual labor task for up to 10 hours a day or more.
  • This position may require the possession of a valid driver’s license. 
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • This position may require the ability to complete a good deal of walking, standing, pushing, and pulling.
