Job Description
Laboratory Supervisor, Third Shift, Core Lab Department
UC Health is hiring a full-time Laboratory Supervisor for the core lab department at West Chester Hospital.
Under the guidance of the Lab Manager/Lab Director, the Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the Technical Associates (TAs), and Medical Technologists (I, II, III) with regards to scheduling, PTO requests, timecards, corrective action and performance review. The Laboratory Supervisor provides technical expertise supporting specimen receiving, specimen testing, and results reporting in the laboratory, oversees supplies for each department, by setting par levels and orderings, and serves as the primary contact for new hires as they are onboarded into the department.

Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities
  • Supervises Lab department including personnel and workflow.
  • Ensures timely delivery of all pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic services by vigilant monitoring of pending orders (LIS, HIS, Pending reports).
  • Performs duties of TA/Medical Technologist, including processing, and specimen testing as workflow dictates.
  • Serves as primary contact for all new employees to coordinate training in areas of the lab that fit the needs of the department.
  • Responsible for creating new hire training packet, getting department specific training assigned to employees, and following up with employee to make sure all training is completed and signed off before employee is working solo.
  • Ensures proper communication of lab support functions with all lab associates.
  • Actively participates in staff department meetings, including daily shift huddles.
  • Conducts Lab Support meetings in support of Lab Administration team when indicated.
  • Assists Lab Director/Manager with Performance Improvement activities.
  • Consults with both internal and external customers to assess needs and to ensure patient safety goals are met.
  • Recommends and implements changes to work processes in coordination with technical staff.
  • Assists Lab Administration with CAP regulations, including but not limited to, policy/procedure review and compliance, adherence to employee safety regulations and employee file maintenance.
  • Participates in interviews and provides recommendations of hiring of associates.
  • Conducts on-going assessment of TA, and medical technologist performance.
  • Assists/conducts on-going assessments, annual performance evaluations and corrective action as indicated.
  • Provides management support of Lab department by overseeing PTO requests, scheduling, time/attendance reporting, timecards, and inventory monitoring.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum Required: Associate's degree in a clinical laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology
  • Preferred: A Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • MT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), or MLT(ASCP) certification.
  • Minimum Required: 3 - 5 Years equivalent experience
