Job description

Wisconsin Conservation Voices (WCV), a nonpartisan sister organization to Wisconsin Conservation Voters, is seeking an adept and innovative content creator to join our communications team to build and engage digital audiences for the Wisconsin Native Vote program. The Native Vote Content Creator will work closely with the WCV communications team and the Wisconsin Native Vote team to develop culturally relevant and engaging online content to reach Native audiences around Wisconsin.
This is a limited term employment position for 12 months with the possibility of extension, and can be full-time or part-time with a minimum of 18 hours/week. The position can be located anywhere in Wisconsin, but must have the ability to regularly travel to Tribal lands across the state and to Milwaukee.
In order to support our team to do their best work, we offer full-time staff a strong benefits package that includes a 36 hour work week, generous paid time off, quality health and dental, and more - see below for complete full-time and part-time details. We also utilize a transparent pay structure in order to ensure we are equitable and competitive in our salaries.
Who We Are
Wisconsin Native Vote is a program of Wisconsin Conservation Voices and has helped significantly increase voter turnout in Tribal communities across the state since 2011. Wisconsin Conservation Voices centers community voices to build a clean environment, healthy communities, and a thriving democracy. Wisconsin Native Vote is a nonpartisan program dedicated to improving voting access for Native people in Wisconsin. Based in the community, working with Native people and Tribal nations, we work to educate voters, register people to vote, and improve voting policies. Learn more about Wisconsin Native Vote here.
What You'll Do
Key Responsibilities:
  • Content Creation: Develop and produce original multimedia content - including memes, short-form videos (Instagram Reels, YouTube shorts and videos, TikTok, etc.), and posts - to educate and engage followers. Bring creativity and new ideas on how to reach Native audiences in Wisconsin. The content will be focused on nonpartisan voter education and culturally relevant topics to Native communities.
  • Build an online audience and engage community members: Build an online audience for the Native Vote program. Foster an interactive online community by responding to comments and messages in a timely, respectful manner. Moderate discussions on our channels to maintain an inclusive, positive environment. Encourage user-generated content and amplify voices from within the community. Increase Native Vote's volunteer base through online community engagement to educate and engage followers and build an audience. Identify and collaborate with other relevant content creators reaching similar audiences.
  • Social Media Management: Manage our presence across all major social platforms (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, etc.), tailoring content and messaging to each platform's audience and best practices. Consistently post, monitor, and engage with the online community.
  • Culturally Relevant Storytelling: Ensure all content is culturally respectful and relevant to our communities. Highlight Indigenous perspectives, traditional ecological knowledge, community events, Native popular culture, and success stories in climate, voting rights, and public health advocacy. Work closely with Tribal community members and leaders when crafting stories to honor cultural values and protocols.
  • Campaign Support: Collaborate with our communications and advocacy teams to support opioid, voting rights, climate, and/or water campaigns and initiatives. Translate campaign goals into digital content (e.g., educational threads, calls-to-action, event promotions). Coordinate with colleagues to ensure messaging is consistent and impactful across all channels.
  • Analytics and Improvement: Track social media metrics and content performance using analytics tools. Provide regular insights on engagement, reach, and follower growth. Use data to learn what content works best and refine our strategy over time. Experiment with new content formats or trends (e.g. livestreams, Instagram takeovers, etc.) to expand our reach. Research algorithms and best practices to ensure our content is reaching the right audiences.
  • Editorial Calendar: Assist in developing and maintaining a social media content calendar aligned with seasonal events, campaign timelines, and relevant cultural dates (e.g., Indigenous Peoples' Day, Earth Day).

Who You Are
To be successful in this job, you will be creative, have experience building and engaging with online audiences, have experience managing social media accounts, and have a cultural awareness and sensitivity to Native values.
Required Qualifications:
  • One to three years of experience in social media content creation, digital marketing, communications, or a related field. We don't need candidates to have held a formal social media role but we do need evidence of your ability to build an online audience.
  • Proven ability to create compelling content on major social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Threads/Bluesky, YouTube). Familiarity with each platform's features and best practices for engagement is required. Experience managing an account with a growing audience or community engagement is highly desirable.
  • Excellent writing, storytelling, and content creation skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences.
  • Basic graphic design abilities and video editing skills - you should be comfortable creating simple videos and visuals. (Experience with tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or mobile video editing apps is beneficial.)
  • Deep cultural awareness and sensitivity to Native American values, histories, and traditions. Ability to communicate in a respectful and culturally appropriate way is absolutely essential. Familiarity with Wisconsin Tribal communities (their cultures, current issues, and community dynamics).
  • Have trusted relationships with Wisconsin's Tribes and Native communities.
  • Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently. Detail-oriented in scheduling posts, proofreading content, and following approval processes. Capable of working independently in a remote environment, while also collaborating effectively with a diverse team.
  • Comfortable with remote-work technology and digital collaboration tools. Reliable internet access and ability to attend online meetings and work weekends or evenings when needed.
  • Experience developing questions and conducting interviews with people from diverse backgrounds.
