BRIDGE PROJECT ENGINEER


SUMMARY

Under general supervision a Team Leader, is responsible for engineering design tasks, including detailed calculations, plan preparation and review, quantity take-offs, cost estimates, technical specification writing, inspections, CAD and other tasks as may be required.


TYPICAL PROJECTS

Typical projects are public and private infrastructure projects. Example projects may include roads, bridges, storm water facilities, potable water systems, sanitary sewer systems, trails, parks, and site development.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:


  • Research design options codes and regulations applicable to the project and provide schematic level and preliminary designs while working closely with other team members.
  • Provide detailed final designs and produce mark-ups to incorporate in drawings.
  • Perform engineering calculations, analysis and design.
  • Produce engineering reports and plans.
  • May serve as a designated Client contact on some projects.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and prepare engineer's estimates for projects.
  • Coordinate directly with Surveyors on project surveying.
  • Coordinate directly with CAD Designers activities.
  • Coordinate work with outside consultants.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and/or Microstation software to prepare engineering design documents and basic drawings.
  • Perform field activities during design and/or construction such as observe and record existing field conditions, take and verify measurements within project area as necessary.
  • Prepare construction specifications for various types of projects.
  • Review shop drawings and material certifications.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited four-year college or university. Be enrolled as an Engineering Intern or hold a Professional Engineering License in the State of Missouri.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.


Riding and/or driving in a vehicle is commonly required for up to 6 hours at a time.


POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. However, most work weeks will be 40 or more hours. Hours are somewhat flexible and some late evenings and/or weekends may be required.


TRAVEL
There may be occasional overnight travel for this position. Some local day travel may also be required.


SKILLS AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil and/or MicroStation
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
