The Courtyard by Marriott hotel, located in Matthews, is hiring for a fulltime Chief Engineer. The person hired for this position will need flexibility to work AM or PM shifts; weekday and weekend availability is required.

* $500 Sign-on Bonus

PRIMARY PURPOSE: To manage the facilities maintenance function of the hotel, including but not limited to the grounds, vehicles, and engineering personnel, as well as the safety & security and maintenance operations of the hotel.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the grounds, engineering and maintenance operations of hotel to ensure all systems are operating to company standards as well as all property assets are maintained to the highest levels.
  • Maintaining the hotel's physical systems and condition to standards by routinely inspecting the entire hotel to ensure that all furniture, fixtures, and equipment are in proper working condition and departmental supplies are stocked at proper levels.
  • Assigns and supervises repair work orders. Complete work orders on time and within budget.
  • Inspects and evaluates the physical condition of facilities in order to determine the type of work required.
  • Maintains a cost effective preventive maintenance program.
  • Maintain accurate files for all inspections, licenses, and contracts.
  • Manage security procedures and proper key control.
  • Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Engineering department

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of three years of previous engineering, building or property management or supervisory experience necessary.
  • Two years of HVAC systems experience in a Hospitality, Property or Building management environment is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, refrigeration, life safety operating systems, pools, preventative maintenance programs and OSHA regulations.
  • Certified Pool Operator (if applicable), CFC and HVAC license and any further Certifications preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, the ability to delegate effectively as well as multi-task and meet strict deadlines are a must.
  • Budgeting, managing cost controls and financial responsibility experience also required.
  • Must be able to identify and solve problems in anticipation of hotel and/or guest needs.

JOB SETTING AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employees in this position may work indoors or outdoors. To perform the job successfully the candidate must be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance and heavier lifting or movement tasks with assistance. Move up and down stairs, service ramps, and/or ladders. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping, see the differences between colors, shades, and brightness, hear sounds and recognize the difference between them, focus on one source of sound and ignore others, use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects, make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls, determine the distance between objects, adjust body movements or equipment controls to keep pace with speed changes of moving objects. Fluency in the English language and the ability to speak, hear, read and write are required as is the ability to work any hours/days of the week necessary to meet business requirements.
