$40,310.00 - $52,403.00Job Description Summary
The Monitor Technician III has the responsibilities of 1) recording routine, emergent, and specialty electrocardiograms (EKGs) of customers ranging in age from newborn to geriatric and determining the quality of said tracings; 2) downloading EKGs from cart to MUSE EKG Computer System; 3) delivering cardiac rhythm strips from the telemetry station to the various nursing units and posting these strips in specified unit locations; 4) performing miscellaneous duties related to cardiac monitoring, including but not limited to troubleshooting telemetry transmitter packs (i.e., replacing worn electrodes, changing batteries, changing wires, retrieval of misplaced telemetry transmitters and cardiac pacers, etc.); and 5) observing cardiac rhythms and pulse oximetry readings displayed on the monitor, interpreting these rhythms, in a timely manner, communicating changes in observed rhythms to nursing units in an emergent or non-emergent manner. The Monitor Technician III, by virtue of his/her experience and expertise, will function as a preceptor for newly hired staff as well as a resource for current Monitor Technicians (Level I and II), nursing, physicians, students of various disciplines, and other healthcare providers. He/she will be responsible for presenting at least one educational offering* to the Cardiac Monitoring/EKG staff ever year. (*Note The educational offering is to be approved in advance by the Monitor Technician III's Supervisor. This requirement may be waived in lieu of other projects deemed worthy by the Cardio-Respiratory Services Management Team.);

Job Description

  • To attain Monitor Technician III, one must have a minimum of one year as a full time Monitor Technician II at AMC, have successfully completed the AMC Preceptor Program, and have successfully completed a program on Advanced Interpretation of Cardiac Rhythms (i.e., the Capital District Consortium Program or similar); not on corrective action.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English. Ability to read documents such as requisitions.
  • Ability to document on established forms. Ability to communicate cooperatively and effectively to clients and others in English, including children.
  • Ability to add whole numbers and decimals; able to compute heart rate.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to prioritize (i.e., emergent vs. non-emergent requests and situations). Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
