The University of Miami's UMIT Department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Business Systems Analyst 3.
The Business Systems Analyst 3 - Central (A) collects detailed data and provides analysis to assist in the development of technology plans and strategies that enhance overall performance, reduce costs, and increase efficiencies. The Business Systems Analyst 3 - Central (A) analyzes established operations, systems, methods, practices, and procedures to evaluate their effectiveness and ultimately make recommendations for improvements. Additionally, the Business Systems Analyst 3 - Central (A) integrates people, equipment, facilities, and other resources to improve work results, operating efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity. This incumbent assists in the design, delivery, and improvement of in-house software applications, training programs, and related courseware.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Reviews, analyzes and triages application issues and cases.
  • Creates and maintains detailed support documentation of ongoing projects, tests internal application releases, and performs periodic system maintenance.
  • Provides training for internal users.
  • Monitors system availability, working closely with system administrators and business systems analysts.
  • Recommends changes in development, maintenance, and system standards.
  • Develops detailed action plan with goals and target dates and obtains necessary approvals.
  • Maintains ongoing communication and rapport with the management team regarding project activity.
  • Flowcharts existing processes versus improved flow.
  • Prepares time and cost estimates for projects and proposals.
  • Conducts research for best practice models and benchmarking.
  • Applies industrial and management engineering techniques, such as process designs, optimization models, forecasting methodologies, and chain management principles, to improve overall systems.
  • Analyzes existing flow of people, activities, and materials, employee work methods and utilization, policies and procedures, staffing levels, supervisory structure, space utilization, supply and demand optimization methods, forms, equipment, and computerized systems to design improved work systems.
  • Designs systems for production and inventory control in buying, storing, handling, and processing of materials and supplies.
  • Designs facilities, management systems, and standard operating procedures.
  • Develops management control systems to aid in financial planning and cost analysis. Improves productivity through the application of technology and human factors.
  • Designs supply chain management standards across the institution.
  • Conducts data collection to measure baseline versus improvement, before and after recommendations are implemented.
  • Creates formal presentations for projects and studies, including data collected, methodology used, results obtained, recommendations for improvement, and cost and savings involved.
  • Participates in continuing quality improvement activities.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions:
The Business Systems Analyst 3 serves as an accomplished and forward-thinking lead, delivering advanced and secure technological solutions. Responsibilities include intake management, requirements analysis, configuration, integration, customization, testing, training, and post-deployment support. This position emphasizes automation, process simplification, and enhancement of user experience and user experience design.
  • Works closely with key stakeholders and subject matter experts across our graduate programs to plan, implement, and maintain assigned projects and systems.
  • Contributes to all phases of the project's lifecycle: planning and prototyping, design, development, conversion, testing and deployment.
  • Performs ad-hoc data analyses and reporting, to aid management in the decision-making process.
  • May build dashboards or reporting systems for end users pertaining to assigned project(s).
  • Provides training and support to users of assigned systems.
  • Facilitates decisions regarding the priority of projects and backlog items for implementation.
  • Creates clear and detailed business requirement documentation, including the creation of process diagrams.
  • Routinely organizes stakeholder meetings and shares meeting minutes, including decisions and action items.
  • Uses strategic planning tools and internal analytic tools with high proficiency.
  • Serves as a liaison to other departments, vendors, and other external parties to complete assignments.
  • Works in partnership with project managers and development teams on assigned projects.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and new technologies related to admission and student success systems and processes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • International Institute of Business Analysis Agile Analysis Certification - IIBA AAC (preferred)
  • Slate Certification (preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience providing user training and developing user documentation and training materials.
  • Experience with admissions or related higher education is preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Power BI or similar data analysis software.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project management tools and methods.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Excel, PowerPoint, and diagram software such as Visio.
  • Solid understanding of common process analysis and improvement methods.
  • Commitment to continuous process improvement and operational excellence.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of administrative functions and related systems used in higher education, desired
