DescriptionSummary:
This is a 9-month, full-time faculty position 50% Teaching/50% Research in the Department of Food and Animal Sciences. Tenure status is negotibale based on qualifications. The selected candidate will be part of a dynamic team of Food Science scientists and educators committed to preparing students to assume research and leadership roles in the profession. The Department of Food and Animal Sciences is home to nationally ranked BS, MS and PhD degrees in Food Science and a leading producer of minority STEM/Food Science professionals. With externally funded training programs and a cadre of faculty committed to developing the next generation of Food Science professionals, the Department offers a fertile environment for transformative education, service and research. Opportunity will be available for summer appointments in the initial stages of the career.
Examples of DutiesEssential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach Food Science courses including Food Biochemistry and related courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Develop a multidisciplinary independent research program related to Food Biochemistry via generation of extramural research funds
- Participate in interdisciplinary research activities in food science/Food Biochemistry.
- Assist/advise undergraduate and graduate students.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Participate in student engagement, recruitment and retention activities
- Execute any other duties and responsibilities that are assigned by the department chairperson
The candidate will also be required to have working knowledge & experience in the areas of Analytical Chemistry techniques and instrumentation, food enzymology and functional foods/protein chemistry, in-vivo and invitro models.
Typical QualificationsMinimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
- Earned Doctorate degree in food science/food biochemistry.
- Outstanding history of publication and grantsmanship
- Experience in advisement of graduate students towards thesis and dissertations in the area of food enzymology and functional foods/protein chemistry.
