Job description

Join Pilgrim Place, a welcoming senior living community in Claremont, CA, where respect, kindness, and teamwork guide all that we do. We’re looking for a dependable and compassionate Food Service Baker to join our team. In this role, you’ll provide personal care and support that helps residents maintain comfort, dignity, and independence.

Schedule Requirement: This position requires full open availability, including weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Shifts may vary based on operational needs.

What You’ll Do:

  • Commercial Baking & Prep: Scratch-bake and prepare daily meals, pastries, and baked goods in high volumes for daily service and special events following standardized recipes.
  • Dietary Compliance & Recipe Scaling: Maintain logs, scale commercial recipes, and adjust batch production to meet specific therapeutic diet plans , texture modifications, and meal counts.
  • Inventory & Stock Support: Assist with receiving deliveries, inventory tracking, cost control, and FIFO (first-in, first-out) stock rotation.
  • Kitchen Sanitation & Equipment Safety: Safely operate, clean, and maintain heavy commercial bakery equipment (e.g., industrial mixers, deck/convection ovens, proofers) and maintain strict health department sanitation standards. Consistently maintain a clean, organized and sanitary kitchen, bakery and food preparation area.
  • Operations Support: Collaboratively support line service, station breakdown, dining room cleaning & reset, dishwashing, catering events, and general dietary team duties as needed.

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Commercial Baking & Prep:  Minimum (2-4) years of commercial, institutional or high-volume professional baking experience required (such as senior living, healthcare, hotel, restaurant, resort, cruise lines or commercial bakeries) (Home baking, casual cooking, or non-commercial experience does not meet the minimum requirements for this position.)

  • Technical Culinary Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in scaling, batch-preparing, and scratch-baking recipes; experience operating commercial kitchen equipment (e.g., industrial mixers, deck/convection ovens, proofers).

  • Dietary Compliance: Ability to strictly adhere to therapeutic diet specifications, (e.g., gluten free) texture modifications (e.g., IDDSI standards), and portion control guidelines.

  • Operational Standards: Strong judgment regarding food safety/sanitation, ability to maintain confidentiality, and reliable attendance for all scheduled shifts.
