Job description

Role Summary
Seeking a highly experienced Senior Network Engineer with specialized expertise in IPv6 technologies to support enterprise-level network modernization initiatives. This role involves leading assessment, design, testing, and implementation of IPv6 and dual-stack network solutions. The ideal candidate will possess deep hands-on knowledge of IPv6 routing, multicast protocols, and Cisco platforms to facilitate seamless network upgrades and ensure secure, scalable IP infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing IPv4 network infrastructure to evaluate readiness for IPv6 integration, including hardware, software, and topology audits.
  • Develop detailed roadmaps and strategies for IPv6 transition, addressing gaps and ensuring compatibility across network devices and systems.
  • Design scalable IPv6 addressing schemes and dual-stack solutions to enable backward compatibility while providing full IPv6 functionality.
  • Create high-level and low-level network design documents, including topology diagrams, routing policies, and IP allocation plans.
  • Develop and execute testing plans for IPv6 deployment, covering dual-stack, tunneling protocols, translation mechanisms (NAT64/DNS64), and multicast routing.
  • Perform lab-based proof-of-concept testing to validate IPv6 configurations, multicast functionality, and routing protocol behavior before production rollout.
  • Troubleshoot complex IPv6 and dual-stack network issues, providing root cause analysis and resolution strategies.
  • Collaborate with security, systems, and application teams to ensure end-to-end IPv6 compatibility and security compliance.
  • Develop and document migration procedures, change management plans, and rollback protocols for IPv6 deployment projects.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on IPv6 and multicast technologies, mentoring junior engineers and supporting knowledge transfer.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7+ years of progressive network engineering experience within enterprise or service provider environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in IPv6 addressing, routing, and migration strategies.
  • Proven ability to design and operate IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack networks.
  • Strong knowledge of multicast routing protocols such as PIM-SM, IGMP, and MLD in IPv4 and IPv6 contexts.
  • Cisco CCNP (Enterprise or Service Provider) certification or equivalent industry experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco routing and switching platforms, including IOS/IOS-XE.
  • Ability to produce clear, professional network design and test documentation.
  • Experience with routing protocols such as OSPFv2/v3 and BGP (including IPv6 address families).
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and experience with network monitoring tools like NetFlow and SNMP in IPv6 environments.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with prior experience participating in large-scale IPv6 migration projects.
  • Knowledge of network security policies and compliance frameworks related to IPv6 deployment.
