Job description

Front Gate Attendant

San Marcos Academy (SMA), located in San Marcos, one of the fastest growing regions in Texas, is a fully accredited private Christian school for students in PreK 3 through 12th grade, with a boarding program for students in grades 6–12. Since 1907, the Academy has provided a tradition of excellence in private Christian education, preparing young men and women for lives of leadership, service, and faith. Our students from across Texas, the United States, and around the world call SMA home.

SMA is accepting applications for a full-time Front Gate Attendant position. This position is primarily responsible for greeting parents, students, staff, and visitors to San Marcos Academy and monitoring public access to campus while creating and inviting atmosphere. Maintaining the security of the campus for all clientele is of primary importance.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Greet drivers that approach the gate, stopping those that do not have a visible Academy decal
  • Scan driver's license of those without a permit using the Raptor hardware/scanner
  • Issue visitor passes as required under Academy policy
  • Assist those that have questions or need directions
  • Keep the entrance booth clean and neat for daily use including area around entrance booth and gate
  • Submit maintenance requests when repairs are needed
  • Communicate with supervisor and other staff on a regular basis
  • Relieve other staff at the entrance booth
  • Call 911 or sheriff's office if situations call for off campus support
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of how the gate functions
  • Knowledge of how to run/use the Raptor hardware
  • Knowledge of building locations and the point of contact in each building
  • Knowledge of the school bell schedule, lunch time, and after school options for students and when visitors should be on campus
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Academy's Crisis Management Plan for rapid response when needed
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Student Handbook, Residential Life Handbook, and the Student Activities Handbook in order to enforce campus policies
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills
  • Ability to recognize and react to emergencies
  • Ability to use above average interpersonal skills in dealing with people
