As a Heavy Equipment Operator / DZ Driver, you will be responsible for assisting in the transportation, processing and land application of Municipal biosolids and wood residuals. Responsibilities include running roll-off trucks, agriculture equipment and heavy equipment such as front-end loaders and bull dozers.

As a DZ Operator, you will provide transportation services between customer sites in an acceptable and safe manner, primarily from the Mattagami Water Pollution Control Plant to a local mine site.

As an equipment operator your responsibilities will include biosolids blending materials, loading trucks and forwarding and spreading material to beneficial use options.

Key Accountabilitieswhen driving

  • Operate motorized vehicles to move material between client sites

  • Light computer/App skills: Accurately complete various documents online, including pre/post trip inspections, manifests, log books, VCRs, H&S meetings and procedures, etc., in a legible and timely manner to meet compliance requirements

  • Ensure that all equipment and systems are operated as per GFL standards

  • Coordinate PM's and other maintenance of the assigned vehicles and equipment

  • Knowledge of Reg. 347/558, WMHIS, MTO regulations

  • Standard shift is Monday to Friday with flexible daytime hours

  • Drivers are required to adhere to all Environmental and Health & Safety policies and procedures

  • Perform other duties assigned

Key Accountabilitieswhen doing field work

  • Load and unload spreading equipment

  • Spread material onto mine lands

  • Operate farm tractors including tillage tools and manure spreaders

  • Knowledge of farming practices and the Nutrient Management Regulation an asset

  • Willing to obtain required licensing/training for future promotional opportunities

  • Other duties as assigned

Experience, Qualifications & Education

  • Three (3) years of driver/operator experience is preferred

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Must possess a DZ license and submit current abstracts, personal and CVOR (no demerits)

  • Must have decent written technical communication skills in order to complete required paperwork, email correspondence and online training

  • Must have exceptional verbal communication skills to be able to interact with team members and internal/external customers

  • Prior experience operating heavy machinery typically found within a mining environment. Operation of farm equipment in an agricultural environment is a definite asset. However, we are willing to train potential candidates who demonstrate a willingness to learn

  • Must be able to exercise good judgment and think proactively

  • Excellent customer service skills, with strong work ethics and a positive attitude
