Job Description

The Laborer/Operators job is to obtain directives from Shift Supervisor to safely and proficiently operate various types of equipment and to clean where and when necessary. The responsibilities encompass the entire plant. 

  • Operate under direction of plant supervision
  • To obtain directives from Shift Supervisor Safely and proficiently operate various types of equipment involving shifting gears. Ability to work of equipment as well doing general labor. Experience with running loaders, dozers, trucks, backhoe
  • Assist with non-mechanical duties such as screen installation
  • Follow lockout procedures
  • Obtain, use and maintain PPE
  • Obtain, use and maintain assigned Tool Kit
  • Make sure work area is safe and free of debris
  • Ensure that all guards are in place in the immediate work area
  • Work will be performed as per supervisor’s instructions
  • Assist plant personnel when needed (i.e. short staffed on production)
  • You are responsible for ensuring all tools that you use get put away
  • You are responsible for reporting any dust emissions as well as all fluid spills or leaks
  • Know, Understand and follow Plant Lockout procedures
  • Immediately report any unsafe conditions, practices or accident, injury, near miss disputes or concerns and/or other circumstances
Qualifications
  • Should have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Should have a minimum of 6 months of experience as a Labourer
  • Experience handling mini equipment like a telehandler, backhoe
  • Previous experience of working on a steel mill is an asset
