The Behavioral Health Technician plays a critical role in supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges by providing direct care and assistance under the supervision of clinical staff. This position focuses on implementing treatment plans, conducting clinical assessments, and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients in various behavioral health settings. The technician is responsible for crisis intervention and management, helping to de-escalate situations and provide immediate support during episodes of emotional or behavioral distress. Additionally, the role involves maintaining accurate and thorough clinical documentation to support continuity of care and discharge planning. Ultimately, the Behavioral Health Technician contributes to improving patient outcomes by fostering a therapeutic environment and collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Behavioral Health Technician training program or relevant certification preferred.
  • Experience in mental health settings or working with individuals with behavioral health needs.
  • Basic knowledge of clinical documentation standards and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Ability to perform clinical assessments and support discharge planning processes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and clinical teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in psychology, social work, or a related behavioral health field.
  • Certification in Crisis Intervention or Mental Health First Aid.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents with severe emotional disturbances (SED).
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and advanced clinical documentation software.
  • Training in trauma-informed care and evidence-based behavioral health interventions.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care and support to individuals with mental health and severe emotional disturbances (SED).
  • Conduct clinical assessments and assist in the development and implementation of individualized treatment and discharge plans.
  • Monitor patient behavior and intervene during crises to ensure safety and de-escalate potentially harmful situations.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate clinical documentation, including progress notes, incident reports, and treatment updates.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including psychiatrists, therapists, and social workers, to coordinate patient care and support recovery goals.

Skills:

The required skills such as clinical documentation and maintaining accurate records are essential for ensuring continuity and quality of patient care, allowing the team to track progress and adjust treatment plans effectively. Crisis management and crisis intervention skills are used daily to respond promptly and safely to behavioral emergencies, helping to stabilize patients and prevent harm. Clinical assessments enable the technician to gather vital information about patient status, which informs treatment decisions and discharge planning. Knowledge of mental health conditions and patient care techniques supports compassionate and effective interaction with individuals experiencing emotional or behavioral challenges. Preferred skills like familiarity with electronic health records and trauma-informed care enhance the technician's ability to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered support in a multidisciplinary environment.
