Position Overview

Are you looking for a rewarding career with an organization that values their staff? The Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) is seeking to hire qualified candidates with the opportunity to work in a dynamic, creative thinking, problem solving environment. This position serves as a System Operations Controller performing basic computer operating functions using operating system commands to monitor data processing environments serving DoIT supported agencies. In this role you will perform basic job control procedures including review, research and analysis work to resolve scheduling or job stream errors using Job Control Language (JCL). In addition, you will work closely with technical personnel including application, system programming staff and production control daily with review and reporting of batch processing issues. Essential Functions
  • Under general supervision, serves as a System Operations Controller for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) performing journey-level computer operator duties using basic operating system command vocabulary to monitor data processing environments, multi-processing schedules, and systems for assigned agencies, including reporting abends and system errors.
  • Performs job control procedures including review, research, and analysis to resolve scheduling or job stream errors using Job Control Language (JCL), available documentation, and procedures.
  • Assists and works closely with technical personnel, such as application and system programming and production control staff to review and report problems or errors with batch jobs and schedules, including performing problem resolution as directed.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the information technology field by continuing education through online training platforms, meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires one (1) year of related data processing experience.
    Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification. 
Preferred Qualifications

   One (1) year of professional experience performing computer system operation functions including monitoring and troubleshooting of data processing environments using Job Control Language (JCL) and accessing and utilizing software such as Time-Sharing Options/Interactive System Productivity Facility (TSO/ISPF) within Rocket BlueZone Mainframe Display session.
   One (1) year of professional experience monitoring multi-processing schedules and reporting system errors or abends to appropriate personnel.
   One (1) year of professional experience identifying, researching, and resolving job stream or scheduling errors using Job Control Language (JCL), system commands, and documented procedures.
   One (1) year of professional experience maintaining production logs, reports, or shift documentation in systems such as Enterprise Production Operations Suite (EPOS) Portal, or SharePoint.
   Working knowledge of automated scheduling software such as CA-Scheduler, ZEKE, or similar tools to monitor multi-processing schedules, track batch job executions, and identify or report job abends and scheduling conflicts.
   Working knowledge of an automated archival and report distribution software such as Mobius View/Document Direct, or similar solutions to access, review, and provide system reports and production documentation for operational logging and troubleshooting.
   Ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgment in defining and evaluating problems of an operational or procedural nature.
   Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients, and others.

    Developed verbal and written communication skills to present technical information clearly and precisely to diverse audiences, including business owners, development teams, agency executives, supervisors, and others.
