What is a from home Eplan job?

A 'From Home Eplan' job typically refers to a remote position where an individual uses EPLAN software to design, document, and manage electrical engineering projects. EPLAN is a specialized software suite widely used for creating electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control systems documentation. Working from home in this role means you collaborate with engineering teams, clients, and other stakeholders using digital communication tools, while performing your design and drafting tasks remotely. This setup offers flexibility and convenience, but also requires strong self-motivation and time management skills.

What are some common challenges of working remotely as an EPLAN engineer, and how can they be managed?

Working remotely as an EPLAN Engineer often involves challenges such as effective communication with project teams, ensuring access to up-to-date project files, and maintaining productivity without on-site supervision. To manage these challenges, it's important to use collaborative tools for file sharing and regular virtual meetings, establish clear communication channels, and follow structured workflows. Additionally, setting a consistent work schedule and having a dedicated workspace can help maintain focus and work-life balance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EPLAN electrical design engineer working from home, and why are they important?

To thrive as an EPLAN Electrical Design Engineer working from home, you need a solid background in electrical engineering principles and experience with electrical schematic design. Mastery of EPLAN software, knowledge of CAD systems, and sometimes certification in EPLAN or related tools are typically required. Strong self-motivation, attention to detail, and effective communication skills are essential for remote collaboration and project management. These skills ensure accurate, efficient design work and seamless coordination with remote teams and clients.

About AlfaITG:

AlfaITG is a leading tooling company providing cradle-to-grave engineered solutions for the manufacturing industry, incorporating Artificial Intelligence to enhance and differentiate both AlfaITG and our customers. We are a nimble, fast-growing systems integrator that designs, builds, and installs automation systems for leading North American and global OEMs.

We specialize in taking a customer's product concept from a clean sheet of paper and engineering and building a complete system to produce that product efficiently, within specified cycle times, and to the highest quality standards. Our multidisciplinary team marries mechanical design, controls, and manufacturing know-how to deliver turnkey automation cells—on time, on budget, and production ready.

In this role, you will own the controls design function across projects and play a key role in shaping how AlfaITG delivers robust, scalable automation systems.

Position Summary:

The Controls Design Lead is responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of electrical and controls systems for custom automation equipment. This includes full ownership of controls architecture, hardware selection, PLC/HMI development, and system integration across tools and complete production cells.

This role combines technical leadership with hands-on execution, including involvement in quoting, early concept development, and supporting system commissioning.

Responsibilities:

· Lead controls design activities across automation projects from concept through launch

· Define and standardize controls architecture for:

o Standalone tooling (geo-fixtures, EOAT, pass tables, etc.)

o Integrated automation systems and full production cells

· Design and configure electrical systems including:

o PLC hardware and network architecture

o I/O systems and field device integration

o Power distribution and panel layouts

· Develop electrical schematics and documentation (EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar)

· Specify and select controls hardware (PLCs, HMIs, drives, safety systems, sensors, etc.)

· Lead PLC and HMI programming efforts, including:

o Developing preliminary and production-ready PLC code

o Establishing program structure and standards

o Supporting debug and commissioning

· Integrate and support robotic systems (e.g., FANUC, ABB, KUKA) in coordination with robot programmers

· Participate in system bring-up, debug, and launch both in-house and on customer sites

· Support quoting and proposal development for new automation opportunities

o Define controls scope, architecture, and level of effort

o Estimate engineering hours for controls design, programming, and commissioning

o Develop preliminary bill of materials (BOMs) for controls hardware

o Provide input on technical risk, complexity, and cost drivers

Qualifications

· Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent experience)

· 8–12+ years of experience in controls design within automation or systems integration

· Proven experience leading controls design for automotive manufacturing systems

· Strong experience with PLC platforms (one or more):

o Rockwell / Allen-Bradley

o Siemens, Omron, or others

· Experience with HMI/SCADA systems (FactoryTalk, WinCC, etc.)

· Strong knowledge of:

o Electrical design and panel layout

o I/O systems and industrial networking (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, etc.)

o Safety circuits and standards (e.g., safety PLCs, relays)

· Experience supporting robotic integration (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, etc.)

· Ability to develop structured, scalable PLC programs

Nice to Have

· Experience in automotive body-in-white (BIW) or light assembly environments

· Familiarity with OEM standards (Ford, GM, Stellantis)

· Experience with simulation, offline programming, or virtual commissioning

· Background in multi-station or high-throughput automated systems

Benefits:

· Competitive salary

· Leadership role in a growing engineering organization

· Flexible work hours with a hybrid work model (3 days work from home, 2 days in office).

· Opportunity to work on challenging and rewarding projects for leading OEMs

· Collaborative and supportive work environment.
