Re-posted 17 days ago

Job description

Description

National Asset Recovery Specialists, Inc. (NARS) is seeking a highly analytical, technically capable intern (paid) with a strong interest in investigative work and skip tracing within the automotive repossession industry. This is not a general internship-we are looking for someone who wants to develop into a professional investigator or skip tracer and is comfortable working with data, research tools, and complex problem-solving.

The ideal candidate is currently pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice, Law, Pre-Law, or a related field with an investigative focus, and demonstrates a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to think critically under pressure.

In this role, you will learn how trained skip tracers legally locate assets, identify alternative addresses, analyze digital and public data, and support real-world recovery operations. This position is best suited for someone who is curious, persistent, and motivated to build a career in investigations or intelligence-based work.

What is Skip-Tracing?

Skip tracing involves gathering, analyzing, and verifying information to locate individuals who have disappeared, whether intentionally or unintentionally. It's a critical tool in modern investigations, helping to reunite families, recover debts, serve legal documents, and even assist in criminal investigations.

What Careers Could a Career in Skip Tracing Lead to?
  • Debt collectors and collection agencies: To locate debtors who have defaulted on payments.
  • Law enforcement: To find fugitives or missing persons, and more.
  • Private investigators: For various types of cases, including missing persons and fraud investigations.
  • Process servers: To deliver legal documents to individuals who are difficult to locate.
  • Real estate investors: To find property owners for potential deals.
  • Law firms: To locate witnesses, heirs, or parties in a lawsuit.
  • Insurance companies: To investigate fraud or locate beneficiaries.
  • Repossession Agents: To find individuals who have defaulted on loan payments for vehicles or other assets.
  • Journalists: To find sources or subjects for stories.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Conduct online research (OSINT) to legally locate individuals
  • Analyze public records, databases, and digital footprints
  • Use tools like Thompson Reuters CLEAR,  TLO, LexisNexis, and skip tracing software
  • Build investigative reports and case notes
  • Verify addresses, employment, and asset information
  • Collaborate with investigators and field agents

Why This Internship is Different:

  • Work on real, active cases
  • Learn techniques used by licensed private investigators
  • Gain experience in data analysis and investigative strategy
  • Build a strong resume for law enforcement and legal careers

Schedule & Flexibility:

We recognize that interns balance academic responsibilities and professional development, and this internship schedule can be structured to accommodate your University and class commitments.

  • Part-time: Approximately 20 hours per week
  • Pay: $15.00 per hour.
  • Days: Monday, Thursday, and Friday
  • Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Opportunities to adjust hours based on academic schedule
  • Onsite: this paid-internship is on-site only. Remote work is not available.

This schedule provides real-world experience while allowing you to maintain your academic priorities.

What We're Looking For:

  • Students pursuing Criminal Justice, Paralegal, Law, or related degrees
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable with technology and research tools
  • Curious and analytical mindset
  • Professional handling of confidential information
  • Strong communication skills

Path to Full-Time Employment:

This internship is designed to serve as a direct pipeline into a full-time investigative career with National Asset Recovery Specialists, Inc.  Interns who demonstrate strong performance, reliability, dedication and the ability to apply skip tracing techniques effectively may be considered for a full-time position upon graduation.

High-performing interns may also be offered the opportunity to continue working with our team after the internship concludes, supporting active cases and further developing their investigative skillset alongside our full-time professional skip tracers. This provides a unique opportunity to transition from a student role into a career-track position, gaining continued hands-on experience in asset location, investigative research, and real-world casework within the automotive repossession industry.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree program in Criminal Justice, Law, Pre-Law, or a related field
  • Ability to perform analytical research and interpret data to support investigative efforts
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and accountability
  • Basic proficiency with computers, online research, and data entry systems
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to follow established procedures
  • Willingness to learn and apply skip tracing and investigative techniques
