Freelance Technical Support information

What is freelance technical support?

Freelance technical support refers to professionals who offer technical assistance and troubleshooting services on a contract or freelance basis, rather than as full-time employees of a single company. These individuals help clients resolve software, hardware, and network issues remotely or on-site. Their tasks can include setting up devices, resolving connectivity or configuration problems, and providing user training. Freelance technical support specialists often work with several clients at once, offering flexible schedules and specialized expertise.

What are some common challenges freelance technical support professionals face, and how can they effectively manage them?

Freelance technical support professionals often encounter challenges such as managing multiple clients with varied technical needs, prioritizing urgent issues, and maintaining clear communication across different platforms. To effectively manage these challenges, it's important to establish structured workflows, use ticketing systems or project management tools, and set clear expectations with clients regarding response times. Networking with other freelancers and continually updating technical skills can also help in handling diverse support requests efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance technical support specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Technical Support specialist, you need a solid understanding of troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues, often supported by relevant IT certifications such as CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Certified Professional. Familiarity with remote support tools (like TeamViewer or Zendesk), ticketing systems, and various operating systems is typically required. Excellent communication, patience, and problem-solving abilities help you effectively assist clients and build trust. These skills are vital for delivering prompt, reliable support and maintaining client satisfaction in a competitive freelance environment.

Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Smith Entertainment Group is seeking an experienced Vice President of Broadcast to lead all television, streaming, and radio broadcast operations for the Utah Jazz and Utah Mammoth. This leadership role will oversee the strategic direction, production execution, talent management, operational planning, and league relationships for both franchises across broadcast platforms while shaping how fans experience Jazz and Mammoth games through compelling, high-quality broadcasts.
SEG has prioritized easily accessible viewing options for Utah Jazz and Utah Mammoth fans, including over-the-air (OTA) broadcasts, in addition to streaming offerings through SEG+, Jazz+, and Mammoth+. SEG recognizes broadcasts as an essential part of building connection, loyalty, and long-term fandom, and is committed to delivering accessible, high-quality viewing experiences for fans wherever they are. This role is critical in maintaining and elevating that experience as sports broadcasting, streaming technology, and fan expectations continue to evolve.
The ideal candidate is an experienced broadcast leader with deep expertise in live sports production, including truck-based event production, talent leadership, partner management, and multi-platform broadcast strategy. This role requires exceptional relationship-building skills, strong operational leadership, and a passion for delivering best-in-class sports broadcasts.
This position is based full-time in Salt Lake City, Utah.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Broadcast Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead the overall vision, strategy, and execution of all Utah Jazz and Utah Mammoth television, streaming, and radio broadcasts.
  • Oversee all live game broadcasts, studio programming, pregame/postgame coverage, shoulder programming, and special broadcast events.
  • Work closely with the marketing and PR teams to deploy compelling storytelling strategies that elevate fan engagement and strengthen the Utah Jazz and Utah Mammoth broadcast brands.
  • Collaborate closely with executive leadership to align broadcast initiatives with organizational priorities, business goals, sponsorship integration, and audience growth strategies.
  • Stay ahead of emerging industry trends, technologies, and best practices in sports broadcasting and streaming.

Production Oversight
  • Provide leadership oversight for all live productions across television, streaming, and radio platforms.
  • Work closely with producers, directors, engineers, and technical managers to ensure world-class production quality and execution.
  • Oversee broadcast planning, rundowns, editorial direction, feature development, music integration, and creative production elements.
  • Ensure consistent execution and production standards across both NBA and NHL broadcasts.
  • Lead production planning for major league events, special programming, and tentpole broadcasts.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure cohesive, high-quality broadcast execution.

Talent Leadership & Development
  • Lead the recruitment, hiring, development, evaluation, and mentorship of on-air talent and broadcast staff.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for broadcast talent regarding production expectations, assignments, scheduling, appearances, and content direction.
  • Provide coaching and editorial feedback to talent to strengthen on-air performance and audience connection.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture within the broadcast department.

Broadcast Operations & Partner Management
  • Serve as the primary liaison with all local, regional, national, league, and distribution broadcast partners.
  • Manage relationships with television, streaming, and radio affiliates, production vendors, mobile unit providers, and technical partners.
  • Oversee relationships with flagship radio stations, network affiliates, and streaming distribution partners.
  • Oversee operational logistics for all home and road broadcasts, including crew coordination, transmission needs, technical infrastructure, venue integration, engineering coordination, and affiliate communications.
  • Coordinate closely with league officials, visiting broadcasters, public relations departments, and arena operations teams.
  • Support the continued development and growth of team radio networks and streaming initiatives.
  • Ensure all broadcasts comply with NBA, NHL, FCC, and league production regulations and standards.
  • Work closely with executive leadership on broadcast contract renewals and serve as a strategic resource throughout negotiation and partnership discussions.

Budgeting & Department Management
  • Lead all broadcast department budgeting, forecasting, staffing, scheduling, payroll oversight, and financial planning.
  • Manage broadcast production resources efficiently while maintaining exceptional production quality.
  • Oversee vendor agreements, production contracts, freelance staffing, and operational expenditures.
  • Participate in contract negotiations related to broadcast talent, production services, and distribution partnerships.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with partnership teams to execute integrated broadcast elements and branded content opportunities.
  • Work closely with the marketing, content and PR teams to ensure brand and storytelling consistency across all broadcast channels.
  • Support organizational initiatives, league events, and special projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 10+ years of senior leadership experience in live sports broadcasting, production, or media operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, Media Production, Sports Management, or related field preferred.
  • Extensive experience producing and managing live professional sports broadcasts, preferably within the NBA, NHL, RSN, or national sports media environment.
  • Strong knowledge of television, streaming, and radio broadcast workflows and technologies.
  • Demonstrated success leading large teams in fast-paced, high-pressure live production environments.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with league officials, talent, coaches, players, executives, and broadcast partners.
  • Strong understanding of evolving sports media trends, streaming strategies, and audience engagement.
  • Experience managing production budgets and operational planning.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during sports seasons.
  • Must attend the majority of Utah Jazz and Utah Mammoth home games and be available to travel for a designated number of road games, league meetings, and special events annually.
