Job description

Rotating Equipment Engineer

Work Locations: Tri-State Area: New York Metro, Connecticut, and New Jersey OR Houston, TX areas

Compensation: $165K - $180k + bonus

Travel up to 40% across fleet sites to support evaluations, inspections, and outage execution.

Company Information:

Alpha Generation is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support capital and maintenance projects across a 24-plant, 12-GW power generation fleet in the northeastern United States. The role provides technical and project management leadership for planned and emergent work, including direct management of select projects and support of fleet-wide project execution in collaboration with plant operations, maintenance, and engineering teams. This role may support mechanical, civil, electrical, or controls-focused projects depending on the candidate’s background and business needs.

Positions Summary:

AlphaGen is seeking a Rotating Equipment Engineer to provide fleet-wide engineering support for rotating equipment programs, with primary focus on pump reliability, motor performance, steam turbine and auxiliary rotating equipment, vibration analysis, alignment, gearboxes, lift oil and lube oil systems, lubrication practices, bearings, and associated Balance of Plant (BOP) assets. The role supports plant operations, maintenance, and outage planning by resolving rotating equipment reliability challenges and implementing engineering solutions that enhance efficiency, availability, and safe operation. This position leads and sustains fleet rotating equipment programs and drives continuous improvement initiatives across all fleet sites.

This position reports to the Fleet Overall Program Lead and works closely with fleet engineering, plant operations, maintenance teams, and third-party vendors to ensure consistent implementation of fleet engineering standards, rotating equipment reliability programs, and industry best practices across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Fleet Rotating Equipment Program, overseeing inspections, condition monitoring, vibration analysis, deficiency tracking, and corrective action management for critical assets.
  • Serve as fleet subject matter expert for rotating equipment across Balance of Plant (BOP) and turbine systems, including pumps, motors, fans, compressors, gearboxes, couplings, bearings, lubrication systems, and turbine auxiliaries.
  • Direct fleet rotating equipment programs, managing performance trending, inspections, testing activities, and lifecycle health of BOP and turbine-related rotating equipment.
  • Investigate rotating equipment reliability issues—such as cavitation, electrical faults, bearing and seal degradation, misalignment, balance, and vibration—and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Analyze operational and condition data, lead rotating-equipment-focused root cause analyses, and recommend improvements to enhance BOP and turbine equipment reliability and availability.
  • Provide engineering support during planned and forced outages, including scope development, repair evaluation, and review of inspection, alignment, and balance results for rotating equipment.
  • Collaborate with plant teams, OEMs, and third-party contractors to implement engineered solutions and drive continuous improvement across fleet BOP and turbine systems.
  • Travel up to 40% across fleet sites to support evaluations, inspections, and outage execution.

Key Attributes

  • Self-starter and motivated individual who takes initiative and demonstrates full ownership of activities required to fulfill the role.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with plant personnel, engineering, and operations leadership to find practical solutions to problems encountered.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and analytical skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple rotating equipment programs across fleet sites simultaneously.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience in the power generation industry, with 10+ years preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred; Electrical, Industrial, or related Engineering disciplines may be considered with relevant rotating equipment experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with pumps, motors, turbines, vibration analysis, alignment, lubrication systems, and outage support in utility, power generation, or comparable industrial environments.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred but not required.

AlphaGen is an equal opportunity employer.
