Insurance Verification & Billing Support Specialist

Position Summary

Hearing Unlimited is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Insurance Verification & Billing Support Specialist to join our team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring patients have accurate insurance benefits verified prior to treatment, and that required authorizations are obtained in a timely manner.

This individual will work closely with providers, office staff, patients, and insurance companies to support efficient revenue cycle operations. In addition, this position will serve as the primary backup to the Billing Coordinator, assisting with billing and accounts receivable functions as needed during vacations, absences, or increased workload periods.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Insurance Verification & Authorization:

  • Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits.

  • Review coverage for hearing aids, audiology services, and related treatment plans.

  • Obtain prior authorizations and referrals when required.

  • Communicate insurance benefits and estimated patient responsibility to office staff.

  • Document verification details accurately within company systems.

  • Track pending authorizations and follow up with insurance carriers.

  • Maintain payer-specific knowledge and guidelines.

Patient Financial Support:

  • Assist patients with insurance and benefit questions.

  • Explain deductibles, co-insurance, out-of-pocket expenses, and coverage limitations.

  • Support collection of required insurance documentation.

Billing Support

  • Assist with claim submission during billing department absences.

  • Monitor claim status and assist with follow-up activities.

  • Review claim errors and support claim corrections.

  • Assist with denial management and claim research.

  • Support aging accounts receivable projects.

  • Prepare reports and assist with billing analytics.

Administrative Support

  • Maintain organized electronic records and documentation.

  • Assist with process improvement initiatives.

  • Support compliance with HIPAA and company policies.

  • Crosstrain with billing and revenue cycle functions.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum 2 years of medical office, insurance verification, or healthcare administrative experience.

  • Strong computer and data entry skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Strong customer service and communication abilities.

Preferred:

  • Experience with insurance verification and authorization.

  • Experience with medical billing or claims processing.

  • Knowledge of Medicare, BCBS, UPMC, Highmark, Aetna, Cigna, and commercial insurance plans.

  • Experience in audiology, ENT, or healthcare revenue cycle operations.
