What Are Freelance Podcast Jobs?

Freelance podcast jobs include a variety of positions that help with the production and distribution of podcasts. In this role, you may write scripts for podcasts, select sound effects, conduct interviews, help manage talent, or otherwise provide independent support for companies as described in your contract. Some freelance podcast jobs are short-term positions that produce content for specific needs, such as helping write easier material to train new talent with, while other positions are long-term roles where you may provide audio and story content for an ongoing story or series. Most freelance podcast jobs are time-sensitive roles because companies prefer to update podcasts on a predetermined schedule, so you may be asked to work overtime, nights, weekends, or holidays as necessary. This job title refers to working as a freelancer for podcasts, not to working for podcasts about freelancing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Freelance Podcaster, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Podcaster, you need strong storytelling abilities, audio editing skills, and a solid understanding of your target audience, with no formal qualifications required but experience in media or communications being valuable. Familiarity with audio editing software (like Audacity or Adobe Audition), podcast hosting platforms, and basic recording equipment is essential. Excellent communication, creativity, and self-motivation help you build engaging content and grow your audience. These skills are crucial for producing high-quality, captivating podcasts that attract listeners and stand out in a competitive market.

What are some of the unique challenges freelance podcast producers face when managing multiple clients?

Freelance podcast producers often juggle several clients at once, which can make scheduling, communication, and meeting varying expectations a challenge. Each client may have different content styles, deadlines, and production standards, requiring strong organizational skills and adaptability. Additionally, freelancers need to manage their own business operations, such as marketing, invoicing, and client acquisition, while ensuring consistent audio quality and storytelling across projects. Building clear workflows and maintaining transparent communication with clients can help mitigate these challenges and foster long-lasting professional relationships.

What is the difference between Freelance Podcast vs Freelance Audio Editor?

Work EnvironmentRemote or on-site, producing entire podcast episodesRemote, focused on editing and sound design
Employer & IndustryPodcasters, media companies, content creatorsMedia companies, production houses, independent creators
Search & Comparison IntentLooking for podcast production services or freelancersSeeking audio editing specialists for projects

While a Freelance Podcast involves creating, producing, and managing entire podcast episodes, a Freelance Audio Editor focuses specifically on editing and refining audio content. Both roles require audio skills, but the podcast creator handles content planning and hosting, whereas the audio editor specializes in sound quality and editing tasks.

What is a freelance podcaster?

A freelance podcaster is an independent audio content creator who produces, hosts, edits, and distributes podcast episodes on a contract or project basis, rather than being employed by a single company. They may work for multiple clients, create their own shows, or offer services such as editing, scripting, or marketing. Freelance podcasters often manage all aspects of production, from planning and recording to publishing and promotion, and may also be responsible for finding sponsorships or monetizing their content.

Job description

219 Studios is a working bilingual studio in North Jersey. The recording and podcast rooms are live and booking now, with video, social, and live production alongside them — content for the Hispanic community and local small businesses. We're looking for a freelance producer/editor who can run a session and turn it into something worth publishing.

What you'd do (varies by project): Record podcasts and voice sessions — clean signal, comfortable guests, on-brand · edit episodes, clips, and audiograms for social · run camera and lights on video shoots when the project calls for it · manage uploads, files, and studio gear · help clients feel at home on the mic and on camera · support live events and pop-up markets.

You're a fit if you: Know your way around a recording session — mics, levels, a clean mix · edit fast in whatever you're fluent in (Audition, Premiere, Resolve, FinalCut — your call) · understand podcasts and what makes people actually listen · understand social and what performs · are organized and show up · communicate well with people on mic and on camera · speak Spanish (strongly preferred — much of our content is for Spanish-speaking audiences) · have a license and reliable transportation. You don't need pro studio credits. You do need work you can show us.

Pay: Hourly, per-project, and ongoing contract work available. Room to grow as we scale.

To apply: Send a short intro, your portfolio or links, and a sample or two — audio or video — you've edited or produced. If your reel or episode speaks for itself, lead with that.

219 Studios — Create at 219.
