Job description

Position Overview:

The successful candidate will be responsible for programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) using PC-DMIS software to inspect high-precision parts per MIL-STD and AS9102 standards. You will lead the execution and documentation of First Article Inspections (FAIs) for both internal manufacturing and external suppliers in support of Department of Defense and other USG programs. The ideal candidate has strong dimensional inspection skills, an in-depth understanding of engineering drawings, advanced level GD&T, and a strong commitment to zero-defect quality that is critical to ensuring that our products meet the stringent quality standards required for defense applications. You will be responsible for conducting inspections, and evaluations of materials, components, and finished products to verify compliance with contract specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. You will have access to a Hexagon Global CMMs and a Romer Absolute Arm to help aid in inspecting a large array of products from both suppliers and internal manufacturing.

Key Job Duties:

  1. Program, set up, and operate CMMs using PC-DMIS to measure complex parts to print, model, and customer requirements.
  2. Perform and document First Article Inspections (FAIs) in accordance with AS9102 and contract-specific requirements.
  3. Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and 3D CAD models to determine appropriate inspection methods.
  4. Support and validate in-process and final inspections using both manual and automated metrology tools.
  5. Maintain traceable and auditable records of inspection results in accordance with QMS and DoD compliance standards.
  6. Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain teams to resolve dimensional and process non-conformances.
  7. Support root cause and corrective action (RCCA) processes for dimensional non-conformances.
  8. Assist in development of inspection plans and control documentation.
  9. Maintain and calibrate metrology equipment, ensuring proper use and upkeep.
  10. Comply with all company safety, quality, and security procedures including ITAR and DFARS flow downs.

Experience/Skills Requirements:

  • 5-15 years of experience in CMM programming using PC-DMIS in a precision manufacturing or DoD aerospace/defense environment.
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or technical degree in Metrology, Mechanical Engineering, or similar field preferred.
  • Strong experience with AS9102 FAI requirements, inspection documentation, and quality recordkeeping.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-1916, ISO 9001, AS9100 preferred.
  • Previous experience with PC-DMIS, or other metrology software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of precision inspection tools (height gages, calipers, micrometers, surface plates, etc.).
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation, communication, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and digital quality management systems (QMS).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
