Description of Work
The Assistant Project Editor, Journals, has the primary responsibility of coordinating all phases of journals workflow-including editorial, production, and manufacture, ensuring timely production of high-quality journals. The Assistant Project Editor is required to prioritize work appropriately and meet steady turnaround demands while maintaining high-quality standards for publications with minimal supervision. This position will maintain continuous communication with journal editors, freelancers, print vendors, and internal staff members and will supervise student interns.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in English or related humanities; additional years of relevant experience or completed relevant education may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must have detailed working knowledge of well-known style guides and electronic editing using Microsoft Word's track changes feature.
  • Excellent editorial, grammar, writing, and communication skills.
  • Superior communication skills, both verbal and written, and good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, judgment, and decision making skills. Attention to detail and follow through.
  • Ability to work under pressure to prioritize and to manage projects with multiple, competing, deadlines successfully.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in publishing or scholarly publishing.
  • Experience with manuscript preparation, copyediting, proof checking, and production processes.
  • Experience communicating with editors, author, or clients in general.
  • Existing knowledge of publishing-related copyright/permission requirements.
  • Experience with Scribe's Well-Formed Document Workflow.
  • Experience using Firebrand's Title Management Module, or another title-management program.
