Freelance Legal Translators, Transcribers, and Interpreters
Location:
  • Remote (translation and transcription)
  • Remote or onsite in Washington, DC; New York City, NY; Miami, FL; Houston, TX; Dallas, TX; San Francisco, CA (interpreting)

Status: Freelance Contractor
Citizenship:
  • U.S. citizen residing in the U.S.
  • Dual citizenship permitted

JTG is currently seeking translators, transcribers, and interpreters between English and one or more of the following languages: Greek, Indonesian, Japanese, Italian, Lithuanian, Portuguese, or Romanian
Responsibilities:
  • Provide accurate translation of documents involving law enforcement and legal subjects
  • Transcribe audio files and translate them into target language
  • Communicate fluently in English orally and in writing
  • Translate in accordance with designated style and quality standards
  • Use domain-specific terminology
  • Review the quality of other translators' work as needed
  • Interpret accurately, while preserving the tone and register, and abiding by the code of ethics

Basic Qualifications:
  • Proficient in translating between English and a foreign language
  • Proficient in interpreting between English and a foreign language
  • Experience in audio transcription
  • Experience as a professional translator, editor, transcriber, interpreter, journalist, writer, or legal professional
  • Familiarity with legal terminology
  • Willing to undergo a U.S. government background check
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Law degree, paralegal certificate, or court interpreting experience
  • Experience with editing, audio transcription, or interpreting
  • Security clearance

Education: Minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
This position reports to the Project Manager.
