Freelance Insurance information

How do freelance insurance professionals typically find clients and manage their workload?

Freelance insurance professionals often find clients through networking, referrals, online platforms, and partnerships with agencies or brokers. Managing workload usually involves balancing multiple client accounts, staying organized with schedules and deadlines, and using customer relationship management (CRM) tools. Since freelancers set their own hours, strong self-discipline and time management skills are essential. Building long-term relationships and maintaining industry certifications can also help sustain and grow a freelance insurance business.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Freelance Insurance Agent, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Insurance Agent, you need in-depth knowledge of insurance products, strong sales abilities, and appropriate state licensing. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software, quoting tools, and digital marketing platforms is typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and networking skills help build trust and expand your client base. These competencies are crucial for meeting client needs, maintaining compliance, and achieving sales targets in a competitive, independent environment.

What is the highest-paying freelance job?

In freelance insurance, high-paying roles often include specialized underwriters, risk managers, or consultants with advanced certifications and extensive industry experience. These positions typically command higher rates due to their expertise and the complexity of the work involved.

How do you get insurance as a freelancer?

Freelance insurance typically involves purchasing individual policies such as professional liability, general liability, or health insurance through private providers or online marketplaces. Freelancers should assess their specific risks and needs, and may benefit from working with insurance brokers to find suitable coverage that aligns with their work environment and skills.

What is a freelance insurance agent?

A freelance insurance agent is an independent professional who helps clients find, purchase, and manage insurance policies such as health, life, auto, or property insurance. Unlike agents who work for a single insurance company, freelance agents can represent multiple insurers, offering clients a broader range of options. They earn commissions based on the insurance policies they sell and may also provide ongoing customer service. Freelance insurance agents are responsible for prospecting clients, understanding their needs, and recommending suitable coverage. They typically have flexible schedules and operate their own businesses.

Can I do insurance as a side hustle?

Freelance insurance agents or brokers can often work as a side hustle, provided they have the necessary licenses and certifications. This allows flexibility to sell policies part-time while maintaining other employment, but they must adhere to licensing requirements and company policies. Success depends on time management, industry knowledge, and building client relationships.

How much do virtual insurance agents make?

Virtual insurance agents typically earn between $30,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, sales performance, and the company they work for. Many agents work on a commission basis, which can significantly impact earnings, and some may also receive bonuses or incentives for meeting sales targets.

Insurance Sales Agent (Remote)

Jerry Insurance Agency, LLC

Phoenix, AZ • On-site, Remote

$100K - $150K/yr

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, PTO

Job description

The Opportunity:
More than 80% of Americans own a car and see it as one of their biggest financial commitments, yet managing one still means paperwork, phone holds, and switching between apps that don't talk to each other. Jerry.ai built the first app to manage it all - insurance shopping, refinancing, safety, and repairs - and since launching in 2019, we've grown to over 5M customers.
Every one of those customers comes to us already looking for a policy, through our mobile or web app. As an Insurance Sales Agent, your job is to take that interest and turn it into a bound policy, matching each customer with the right coverage from one of Jerry's 55+ carrier partners.
Who you are:
  • You have 2+ years of experience as a top-performing sales agent
  • You can multitask and manage multiple competing priorities
  • You are passionate about helping others

How you will make an impact:
  • Respond to inbound calls from prospective customers for personal line auto, home, motorcycle, and other specialty insurance policies
  • Educate customers on insurance policy details such as coverage and pricing
  • Prepare and bind quotes through our carriers
  • Effectively problem solve and objection handle to remove barriers from the customer purchasing the policy with Jerry
  • Provide attentive, high energy conversation with customers that show we are actively engaged in finding a policy that best fits each individual's needs

Compensation and perks:
  • Hourly wage: $19.00 - 21.00 plus uncapped commissions (on target annual earnings: $100,000-$150,000+)
  • We will pay for your P&C license (expected within 2 weeks after starting)
  • Medical, dental, vision insurance, 401K match
  • Ability to work remotely (we provide work equipment)
  • Ongoing training and mentorship from our leadership team
  • An outstanding portfolio of insurance carriers and products - we work with over 55 carriers to ensure we can offer our customers the best options for them

This role includes flexible scheduling options, with the choice between a 5-day, 8-hour schedule or a 4-day, 10-hour workweek.
While we appreciate your interest and application, due to the volume of applications we receive, only applicants under consideration will be contacted.
Please note: Jerry.ai is only able to hire full-time salaried employees who currently reside in AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, MA, NC, NJ, NV, NY, OR, TN, TX, UT, VA, or Ontario, Canada, and full-time hourly employees who currently reside in AZ, FL, GA, NV, NY, NC, TN, TX, UT, or VA. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from candidates residing elsewhere at this time.
Jerry.ai is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. We prohibit discrimination based on race, religion, color, national origin, sex, pregnancy, reproductive health decisions or related medical conditions, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, veteran status, disability, genetic information, or other characteristics protected by applicable local, state or federal laws.
Jerry.ai is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities in our job application process. If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, please contact us at recruiting@jerry.ai
The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the pay range listed on this job posting, determined based on job-related factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Ranges are market-dependent and may be modified in the future. In addition to base salary, the compensation may include opportunities for equity grants.
We offer a comprehensive benefits package to regular employees, including health, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, paid parental leave, 401(K) plan with employer matching, and wellness benefits, among others. Equity opportunities may also be part of your total rewards package. Part-time, contract, or freelance roles may not be eligible for certain benefits.
About Jerry.ai
Your car and your home are your most expensive assets. And for most people, these aren't just purchases, they're the physical embodiment of the life you've worked hard to build. Yet the experience of owning them is stuck in the 90s. Every step of the journey - buying, insuring, maintaining, repairing, selling - is fragmented, complicated, and expensive.
Imagine having a trusted friend in your pocket who takes care of everything: they find you the right car or home at the right price, lock in the best insurance rate without you lifting a finger, remind you before that service appointment turns into an expensive repair or, worse, an accident, and help you sell at the best price when the time is right. That friend is Jerry.
Jerry is building the first AI agent to manage all your physical assets. We started with car insurance in 2019, became one of the top 3 brokers in the U.S., then added driving insights, diagnostics, and a repair marketplace.
We've reached 5M+ customers, raised $240M+, and have been profitable since 2024. We're now expanding into home, motorcycle, RV, and beyond.
We're fully remote with offices in Palo Alto, New York, Chicago, and Toronto.
