Job description

Job Title: Fire Protection Design engineer

Location: Overland Park, KS
Job Type: Full-Time

Job Overview:

Seeking a Fire Protection / Fire Alarm Engineer with project management experience to support the design, coordination, and delivery of fire protection and fire alarm system projects. The ideal candidate will have experience with fire alarm and sprinkler design, code compliance, construction documents, and client coordination.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage project coordination activities including scope, schedule, communication, and project delivery.

  • Design fire protection and fire alarm systems, including layouts, calculations, drawings, and specifications.

  • Prepare performance specifications and design documentation for fire protection systems.

  • Perform quality control reviews to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.

  • Review construction documents, shop drawings, and specifications.

  • Conduct site investigations and construction observations.

  • Interpret and apply NFPA standards, building codes, and industry requirements.

  • Coordinate with owners, architects, contractors, municipalities, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).

  • Provide technical guidance and support throughout project lifecycles.

  • Assist with business development and client relationship activities.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Fire Protection, or related field) with 3+ years of relevant experience OR 5+ years of relevant experience with equivalent education.

  • Experience with fire alarm and fire sprinkler performance design (SD/CD) or construction administration experience transitioning into design.

  • Strong knowledge of engineering design principles, codes, and standards.

  • Proficiency with:

    • Revit

    • AutoCAD

    • Bluebeam

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam completion.

  • Professional Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) license.

  • NICET certification or similar industry credentials.

  • Project management and client relationship experience.
