Founding Manager information

What is a founding manager?

A Founding Manager is one of the earliest leaders or executives in a startup or new company. They are responsible for helping to establish the organization’s vision, culture, and operational foundation. Their duties typically include overseeing daily operations, strategic planning, hiring initial team members, and driving early growth. Founding Managers often work closely with other founders to make critical decisions and set the direction for the company's future. Their role tends to be very hands-on and multifaceted, especially during the company's formative stages.

What is the difference between Founding Manager vs Project Manager?

Employer & Industry UsageFounders, startups, new business venturesCompanies across industries managing specific projects
Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding leadership roles in startupsManaging projects, timelines, and deliverables

The Founding Manager typically leads new business initiatives, focusing on startup growth and strategic direction, often with entrepreneurial experience. In contrast, a Project Manager oversees specific projects within established organizations, ensuring timely delivery and resource management. While both roles require leadership and organizational skills, the Founding Manager operates in a more dynamic, uncertain environment, whereas the Project Manager works within structured project frameworks.

What are some unique challenges a founding manager might face when building an early-stage team?

As a Founding Manager, you’ll often be tasked with assembling a team from the ground up, which can be both exciting and challenging. One common hurdle is recruiting and retaining top talent with limited resources and minimal brand recognition. You’ll also need to wear multiple hats, balancing strategic planning with hands-on execution, while fostering a collaborative culture in a fast-paced, uncertain environment. Flexibility, resilience, and strong communication skills are crucial for navigating these challenges and setting the foundation for long-term success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a founding manager?

To thrive as a Founding Manager, you need strong leadership, strategic planning, and business development skills, often backed by entrepreneurial experience or a degree in business management. Familiarity with startup tools such as project management software (e.g., Asana, Trello), CRM platforms, and basic financial systems is highly beneficial. Exceptional communication, resilience, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for navigating uncertainty and motivating early teams. These qualities enable a Founding Manager to drive growth, build a cohesive team, and successfully launch and scale new ventures.

Founding Territory Partner - Ophthalmic Device (High Income + Recurring Revenue)

Job description

Description
Founding Territory Partner - Ophthalmic Device (High Income + Recurring Revenue)
We are building a national team for Optivize, an in-office dry eye procedure that treats the underlying cause of disease-not just symptoms. This is a procedural platform, not a one-time device sale, with built-in recurring revenue from every treated patient.
Compensation is structured for experienced, entrepreneurial reps:
    • $5,000 per device placement ($12K-$15K selling price)
    • 50% of disposable revenue (practice pays $175 per disposable)
    • Ongoing income tied to active accounts
    • No cap on earnings-your income grows with account production and adoption

This is not just a transactional sale. Each placement creates a long-term revenue stream that grows with usage, giving you both upfront income and recurring earnings from every account you develop.
Example: Sell one Optivize unit per month = $60,000. Each of your practices performs 20 procedures per month = $561,600
Total pay = $621,600
We are looking for special hard-driving independent reps who want more than one-time commissions-this is an opportunity to build a portfolio of producing accounts and participate in a rapidly expanding treatment category who desire no limits on how much they can earn. Place one per month, coach your docs up to 20 procedures per month, and the second year you are over $1 million/yr. It is easier than you think!
Candidate profile and Call Points
We are not looking for reps-we are looking for builders.
We are seeking experienced, independent medical sales reps who already call on ophthalmology, optometry, or other procedure-based private practices. You are comfortable working commission-only and prefer it, because you understand how to build long-term income from producing accounts-not just one-time sales.
You have experience with capital equipment or procedural device sales and know how to introduce new technology into a clinic. You're not waiting for leads-you create opportunities, open doors, and drive adoption.
This is for reps who want to build something meaningful over time. Each placement creates ongoing consumable revenue, and your income grows as your accounts produce. If you're looking for a quick transaction, this is not it. If you want to develop a portfolio of active, revenue-generating accounts, this is a strong fit.
CALL POINTS:
1. Opening Hook
"Most dry eye treatments, at best, manage symptoms, but don't address the underlying cause. Optivize is an in-office procedure designed to fix that."
2. Clinical Differentiation (simple)
"For the first time ever, we can clear intraglandular biofilm, allowing the tear glands to function again."
3. Revenue Angle
"This is a procedure-based platform. Practices generate between $600 to $900 per treatment, and it's repeatable."
4. Workflow Fit
"It integrates easily into existing clinic flow-no major disruption or complex setup."
5. Close for Next Step
"I'd just like 15 minutes to show you how this could fit into your practice. If it makes sense, great-if not, no pressure."
Territories Available
U.S. territories are open as part of a national rollout. Early partners will have the opportunity to secure and develop their markets.
