Job description

Senior Manager, Investment Management

Lightsource bp | Denver, CO or Austin, TX | Hybrid
Department: Finance | Reports to: Head of Regional Finance, US

About Lightsource bp

Lightsource bp is a global leader in onshore renewable energy development, delivering large-scale solar and energy storage solutions that power the energy transition. For over a decade, we've been diversifying the way the world is powered through responsible, sustainable renewable energy.

Fully acquired by bp in 2024, Lightsource bp operates under a capital-light investment model — retaining management and equity interest in projects while leveraging third-party capital, including debt, tax equity, and structured equity financing, to fund our growing portfolio.

Our people and projects are focused on long-term sustainable growth, energy security, and a cleaner future.

The Opportunity

Lightsource bp is seeking a Senior Manager, Investment Management to join our U.S. Finance team, based in Denver or Austin.

The Investment Management (IM) team serves as the primary interface between Lightsource bp and its capital partners — from the close of financing transactions through ongoing day-to-day relationship management, reporting, and commercial interaction until potential full exit.

In this role, you will provide critical financial modelling and analytical support across our U.S. renewable energy portfolio, working closely with Structured Finance, Asset Management, Finance, Power Marketing, Legal, and Engineering teams to drive portfolio performance and long-term value.

What You'll Do
  • Build, develop, and maintain robust financial models for individual asset portfolios, including return and valuation calculations, debt sizing, ratio analysis, and scenario sensitivities
  • Update portfolio models with actuals and maintain monthly, semi-annual, and annual cash flow models
  • Provide support on debt financing, refinancing, and M&A transactions
  • Work with independent advisors (technical, legal, tax) and internal teams to develop deep knowledge of asset value drivers
  • Deliver clear, high-quality financial modelling advice to both specialist and non-specialist stakeholders
  • Support budgeting, financial planning, and Board presentations
  • Regularly review and update the Asset Valuation Framework, including valuation methodology, modelling assumptions, and financial KPIs
  • Update asset portfolio models on a semi-annual basis with financial actuals and agreed assumptions, delivering outputs in line with the Asset Valuation Framework
  • Prepare timely valuation reports and provide model updates to support investment and divestment initiatives
Investment Management Team Support
  • Support IM Portfolio Managers on investor and lender compliance matters, including modelling and presentations for tax equity investors, JV partners, and lenders
  • Manage covenant reporting, waiver and approval requests, debt service payments, sponsor distributions, and credit support facilities such as Letters of Credit
  • Contribute ideas for new investment or divestment opportunities, including maintenance capex, operational improvements, and commercial contract enhancements
What We're Looking For Skills & Knowledge
  • Advanced Excel skills are a must, including VBA, Power Query, and Power BI (or similar data analysis tools)
  • Demonstrated ability to build financial models for project valuations and project-level debt management
  • Strong understanding of project finance debt sizing, key valuation drivers, and non-recourse financing structures
Experience
  • 3–5 years of relevant work experience in project finance, financial advisory, infrastructure investment, or a related field
  • Proven track record of independently building financial models, running sensitivities, and challenging assumptions on project finance transactions
  • Demonstrated experience as the primary modeller on a debt raising transaction within a financial institution, financial advisory, or model auditing firm
  • Prior experience taking a project through an Investment Committee, including building models to present the business case for investment, is a strong plus
Education
  • Degree in Engineering, Finance, Business, or a related field
Personal Qualities
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively across multiple workstreams
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to recognize and question anomalies
  • Confident communicator and presenter — able to build strong relationships across technical and non-technical teams
  • Calm under pressure, adaptable, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, complex matrix environment
  • A strategic thinker who can connect asset-level detail to broader portfolio and regional insight
What to Expect in This Role

This is a high-impact role in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. You'll be expected to think several steps ahead, distill critical matters for senior leadership, and balance regular deliverables with the ability to step up on time-sensitive or high-priority issues. You'll work across teams globally, leveraging best practices and contributing to Lightsource bp's continued growth in the U.S. renewable energy market.
