Founder Product Designer information

What is a founder product designer?

Founder Product Designers are professionals who play a dual role in startups or new ventures, acting both as the founder and the lead designer of a product. They are responsible for shaping the product vision, user experience, and design strategy from the ground up. This role requires a blend of entrepreneurial skills, creativity, and a deep understanding of user needs. Founder Product Designers often oversee everything from initial concept and prototyping to user testing and final product launch. Their unique position allows them to directly influence both the business and design aspects of a company.

How does a founder product designer typically interact with engineering and business teams in an early-stage startup?

As a Founder Product Designer in an early-stage startup, you’ll closely collaborate with both engineering and business teams to translate product vision into tangible user experiences. You'll often participate in strategic discussions, prioritize feature development based on user feedback and business goals, and work hands-on with engineers to iterate quickly on prototypes and product releases. The environment is highly cross-functional and fast-paced, requiring adaptability, proactive communication, and a willingness to wear multiple hats. This close collaboration ensures that design decisions align with technical feasibility and market needs, and often offers opportunities for significant influence on the overall product direction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a founder product designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Founder Product Designer, you need a strong background in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, proficiency in prototyping, and a solid understanding of product strategy, often supported by a degree in design or related field. Expertise with design tools like Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, and familiarity with agile product development frameworks are typically required. Vision, entrepreneurial mindset, strong communication, and collaboration skills help set exceptional candidates apart. These capabilities are crucial for creating innovative products that align with business goals and deliver real value to users in a startup environment.

What is the difference between Founder Product Designer vs Product Designer?

Work EnvironmentStartups, early-stage companies, entrepreneurial settingsTech companies, agencies, established organizations

The main difference is that a Founder Product Designer often works in startup environments, combining design skills with entrepreneurial responsibilities, while a Product Designer typically focuses solely on product design within established companies. The Founder Product Designer may also be involved in business strategy and product vision, whereas the Product Designer concentrates on user experience and interface design.

Job description

Part-Time Business & Brand Assistant — Maison Sanders

Maison Sanders is looking for a dependable, motivated, and organized person to work closely with the founder as a part-time Business & Brand Assistant.

This is a flexible side position designed for someone who may already have a job, school, or other responsibilities but wants to earn additional income while helping build a growing fashion brand.

This person will work closely with the founder and help manage tasks that keep the business moving while the founder focuses on manufacturers, vendors, networking, product development, partnerships, and overall company growth.

Responsibilities may include:

• Helping manage day-to-day business tasks

• Assisting with the Maison Sanders website and product listings

• Following up with vendors, creators, models, and potential collaborators

• Helping organize appointments, deadlines, projects, and important follow-ups

• Supporting social media, content planning, and promotions

• Being comfortable appearing on Live or helping find someone to promote products on Live

• Helping coordinate models, creators, photographers, or promotional opportunities

• Assisting with customer messages and basic order-related questions

• Researching business, marketing, fashion, and promotional opportunities

• Helping organize clothing samples, products, and brand materials

• Keeping the founder updated on important tasks and unfinished business

• Taking initiative when something needs to be handled instead of waiting to be asked every time

Ideal Candidate:

• Reliable and responsive

• Organized and good at keeping track of details

• Comfortable communicating with different people

• Professional but personable

• Interested in fashion, business, marketing, or entrepreneurship

• Comfortable using social media

• Comfortable being on camera when needed

• Able to work independently

• Someone who wants to grow with a company instead of simply completing assigned tasks

Compensation:

This is a paid part-time position with flexible scheduling.

Compensation may include:

• Weekly base pay

• Performance-based bonuses

• Potential commission or percentage of qualifying sales

• Additional commission opportunities for sales directly generated through promotion, content, referral codes, or Live activity

Starting compensation is $10 per hour for approximately 5–6 hours per week, with flexible scheduling around your existing job or school responsibilities.

In addition to base pay, there will be opportunities to earn commission on sales directly generated through your promotional efforts, referral code, content, Live streams, or other trackable activities.

As Maison Sanders begins generating consistent revenue and the position grows in responsibility, both hours and compensation may increase.

The position is designed to begin as flexible side income while Maison Sanders continues to grow. As the company expands, there may be opportunities for increased responsibilities, compensation, exposure, travel, and a larger long-term role within the company.

This position is best suited for someone who wants to become a trusted part of the Maison Sanders team and work closely with the founder as the brand develops.
