General Description
SUNY Niagara has a need for a part time Music Instructor for our Foundations of Music Theory course.
This course is taught in person in a classroom setting on our Sanborn, NY campus. This is an introductory course that presents the basics of musical notation. Topics covered include melodic and rhythmic notation, clefs, scales, key signatures, principles of rhythm, and chord symbols. The ability to read music notation is the course content. The course is recommended for the non-music major or students without previous music experience. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters.).
Remuneration for this position is: $960 per lecture hour/$860 per lab hour.
In order to build and maintain an active pool of qualified candidates to meet our present and future needs for this position, SUNY Niagara will accept applications on a continuous basis. Openings may or may not exist at this time. Applications are evaluated on an as-needed basis, and candidates will be contacted when the department has an opening. Candidates who submit their information may or may not be notified as to the status of their application.

Essential Functions

Must be able to effectively communicate with students, co-workers, supervisors and the campus community. Must be able to develop, prepare and present information. Must able to operate computers. Must be able to physically perform the duties of the position and must adjust any teaching to the Americans with Disabilities Act provisions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years of experience teaching at a high school or college level

Desirable Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Music or related field
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software i.e. Excel and Word
  • Experience with the Brightspace learning management system.
